Company Overview
Mott MacDonald Bentley is a fully integrated design and build business combining the design expertise of Mott MacDonald with the contracting experience of JN Bentley to deliver award-winning engineering projects. With an annual turnover surpassing £600 million, Mott MacDonald Bentley cements its position as a leader within the industry. The robust business performance creates an ideal environment for career growth.
We are currently expanding our energy sector team and looking to recruit for a Project Leader within our developing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) team.
Role Overview
As a Project Leader, you will lead the design phase of projects in a fast-moving sector which is rapidly expanding as part of our national transition to a Net Zero energy system. You'll be based in either our Leeds or London (Fleet Place) offices, but will also visit our other offices to meet with specialist engineers and spend time on our construction sites to see your designs becoming reality.
This role combines elements of both traditional Project Management and Design Engineering, creating a unique work environment where you can thrive personally and professionally, accelerating your journey to chartership or developing your cross-discipline expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Work as part of a "project triangle" alongside a Site Manager and Quantity Surveyor to consider technical, constructability, and commercial aspects throughout project delivery.
- Lead the design phase of the project from the initial outline to detailed design, through construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Coordinate the project team including HV electrical, LV electrical, protection, control, civil and geotechnical, BIM modelers, and technical specialists, ensuring designs are completed on programme, within budget, and to the specified quality standards.
- Undertake design within your own discipline.
- Mentor and develop less experienced colleagues where appropriate.
- Build positive relationships with the client's project, operational, and technical assurance teams and promote a "one-team" approach.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering (electrical or civil engineering preferred but not essential)
- Working towards professional qualification
- A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region
What’s in it for you
At Mott MacDonald Bentley, you will be offered a competitive salary based on your experience. Our core benefits include:
- 26 days holiday + bank holidays
- Option to buy, sell, and carry over holidays each year - can buy up to 5 days leave or sell up to 5 days
- Matching pension contributions from 5% employee and 10% employer contribution after 3 months' service
- Life assurance of 4 x salary
- Income Protection
- BUPA private medical cover after 3 months' service
- Health cash plan after 3 months' service (covering dental, optical, physio, etc.)
- Company bonus twice a year (June and December) – discretionary, roughly 7.5-8% paid in two instalments
- Annual salary reviews in December
- Note: Mott MacDonald Bentley is not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK, due to policy changes effective April 2024. We welcome applications from candidates eligible via other UK immigration routes that do not require sponsorship.
