Qualifications

• HSE advisory experience and ability to lead others.
• NEBOSH General/Construction certification.
• Full UK Driving licence.
• Grad IOSH or working towards.
• NVQ L5/6 or Diploma in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with MJ Church management system.
• Coordinate with National Highways, designers, project team, supply chain and client representatives.
• Lead development of a strong HSE culture across the project.
• Monitor and advise on legal compliance, Principal Contractor responsibilities and industry best practice.
• Advise and assist in development of Safe Systems of Works.
• Provide visible HSE leadership on site and embed NH requirements.
• Chair HSE meetings and lead employee consultations.
• Collaborate with department heads and project personnel to promote safety.
• Deliver training and cultural campaigns and mentor the HSE team.

The Role

MJ Church has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join our growing team on the St George Bridge refurbishment project. MJ Church will be acting as Principal Contractor on behalf of National Highways, with the role reporting directly to the Civil Engineering HSE Manager and Project Manager. This is a key project-based leader role, responsible for driving HSE standards, supporting delivery teams, and providing clear direction for the HSE function.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with MJ Church management system.
• Coordinate and collaborate with National Highways, Designers, the project team, supply chain and client representatives.
• Lead the development of innovative ways to promote a strong Health, Safety & Environmental culture and awareness across the project.
• Monitor and advise the project team regarding legal compliance, Principal Contractor responsibilities and industry best practice.
• Advise & assist in the development of Safe Systems of works.
• Work independently or in a team to meet specific requirements.
• Manage, support and develop direct reports, setting clear expectations and ensuring effective performance across the project HSE team.
• Provide visible HSE leadership on site, working closely with the project team to embed duties and National Highways requirements.
• Conduct training and cultural campaigns.
• Chair Health, Safety & Environment meeting, providing a proactive and positive contribution.
• Conduct Employee Consultations.
• Understand, advise and help discharge CDM 2015 duties applicable to the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer role.
• Conduct effective monitoring and reporting regimes in line with contract and business requirements.
• Collaborate with department heads and project personnel.
• Work closely with our supply chain and clients to promote and deliver excellence.
• Assist operational teams to provide HSE knowledge and expertise, demonstrating a hands-on approach.
