Job description

Project Engineers (Water and Wastewater)

Project Engineers (Water and Wastewater)

Driving the design and delivery of vital water infrastructure across civil, mechanical and electrical disciplines.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Project Engineers at various levels (Engineer, Senior and Principal) to join our growing water team, delivering a diverse portfolio of technical projects across the UK. This is a key role for individuals with water industry project delivery experience who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working across complex engineering and digital delivery programmes.

Purpose and scope of the role:
You will lead projects through the full lifecycle, from inception to handover and closure, working within a multi-disciplinary team on technically challenging and commercially significant work. The role will involve taking overall responsibility for technical delivery of projects and programmes through co-ordinating multi-disciplinary feasibility and design teams. You will work closely with project managers, clients, colleagues and supply chain partners to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes delivered in line with agreed scope, time and cost.

Your impact in this position:
This is a great opportunity to contribute to significant projects that support clients and communities across the UK. You will play a central role in driving successful project outcomes, strengthening client relationships and helping to grow a high-performing delivery team. In the short term, you will be trusted to lead live projects and support delivery excellence. In the longer term, you will help shape delivery across a varied portfolio, develop your technical and leadership capability, and build a rewarding career with opportunities for progression.

  • Project delivery leadership– Proven ability to co-ordinate multi-disciplinary teams to successfully deliver projects and programmes in the UK water industry.
  • Technical and engineering understanding– Strong background in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, with the ability to work confidently in technical environments and understand engineering-led delivery.
  • Commercial and contract awareness– Ideally experienced in working in an NEC contractual environment, with an understanding of how to manage contract requirements, change, risk and performance effectively.
  • Stakeholder management– Able to build positive working relationships with clients, delivery teams and wider stakeholders, communicating clearly and resolving issues constructively.
  • Adaptability across project types– Comfortable managing engineering projects and adapting your approach to suit different delivery models and client needs.

Skills, qualifications and experience:
You should be degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline. We will support you in moving towards chartered status with a suitable body if you aren’t already chartered.

Experience of successfully driving project delivery is essential, and NEC4 contract knowledge or experience would be highly desirable.

You will also need strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain delivery focus. A full UK driving licence is required.

Work patterns and locations:
We are recruiting across Warrington, Brighton, Exeter, Leeds, Sheffield and Derby, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Hybrid working arrangements may be available, depending on project and business needs, with occasional travel to client, site and team locations as required.
