Job summary

Airbus Belfast Limited seeks a Project Engineer (Stress) to lead structural integrity and airworthiness strategy across cutting-edge development programs. You will guide stress engineers, drive design, development and certification of composite and metallic airframe structures.

You will establish modelling standards, govern critical test campaigns, and resolve manufacturing escalations to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Be degree qualified (BSc/BEng in Mechanical/Aerospace/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent) and have >=3 years’ Stress Engineering experience OR have an HNC/HND with >=5 years’ experience.
  • Experience of stress analysis for sizing of primary aircraft structure in both metallic and composites.
  • Experience with classical methods and FEA for composite and metallic materials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to core and subcontract stress engineers on Structural Stress analysis for static strength, fatigue and damage tolerance.
  • Contribute to stress activities to support design development and certification.
  • Interact with customers and certification authorities to ensure compliance with requirements and regulations.
  • Review and approve drawings, DDS and certification reports to meet technical specs and certification requirements.

Join Airbus Belfast as a Project Engineer (Stress)

to direct the overarching structural integrity, airworthiness strategy, and regulatory compliance across our cutting-edge aircraft development programs. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical and commercial support to teams of core and subcontract stress engineers, driving the design, development, and certification of optimized composite and metallic airframe structures. You will establish enterprise-wide modelling standards, govern critical structural test campaigns, and resolve high-level manufacturing escalations to ensure all aircraft meet the highest safety and certification requirements.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM

Provide technical support to teams of core and subcontract stress Engineers working on Structural Stress analysis of Composite and Metallic Structures for Static Strength and Fatigue and Damage tolerance.

Contribute to all stress activities to support design development and certification activities.

Support project technical definition, planning and budget.

Interact with customer and certification authorities to ensure compliance with customer technical requirements and certification regulations.

Provide technical guidance to stress teams to ensure schedule adherence and technical requirements are met.

Review and approval of Drawings, DDS and certification reports to meet both technical specification and Certification requirements.

Liaise with other engineering disciplines (Design, Loads, Materials, Manufacturing and Test Engineers) Participate in internal and customer design reviews to deliver optimized airframe structure design that complies with certification requirements.

Support the approval of development and certification testing specification and test results assessments.

ABOUT YOU

Essential

Be degree qualified (BSc/BEng in Mechanical/Aerospace/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent discipline) and have at least 3 years’ relevant Stress Engineering experience OR Have a HNC/HND in a relevant discipline and have at least 5 years’ relevant Stress Engineering experience. Experience of stress analysis for sizing of primary A/C structure in both Metallic and Composites materials. Experienced in Stress Analysis using classical methods and Finite element Analysis for composite and metallic material. Demonstrate experience to support delegation for stress approval of drawings and certification reports. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and under pressure to execute stress analysis work packages to support program milestones Good written and verbal communication skills. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with Engineers and all levels.

Desirable

Desirable Criteria - Statics: Previous experience in Airbus stress methods for static and Composite structures including ISAMI. Has held previous Airbus Delegation on all A/C programs including legacy Bombardier C-Series of the A220. Experience in sizing of the main structural components of commercial aircraft wings. Previous experience of working with supplier and ESP (Engineering Service Provider) Teams. Experience in development of Structural Certification Test Requirements.

Desirable Criteria - Fatigue & Damage Tolerance: Experience in development of fatigue spectrum using Bombardier Goliath tools. Experience in development of fatigue spectrum using Airbus ISAMI Tools. Development of NASGRO stress models for damage tolerance analysis. Have supported previous delegation of Legacy Bombardier C-Series/A220 or Airbus DOS delegation.

Desirable Criteria - Finite Element Modelling: Experience development of Global and Local/Detailed Finite Element Models for Aircraft development and certification. Good working knowledge of Airbus Finite Element Modelling rules Proven track record of FEM validation to comply with Airbus and Certification Requirements. Validation of Finite Element Model results against certification test results.
