Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Project Engineer – Interfaces to join the HVDC Engineering Team in a hybrid role based in Scotland. The role focuses on managing design interfaces across HVDC, AC, Civils and Cables, maintaining interface registers, and controlling design submittals via ACC.

The successful candidate will drive early issue resolution, liaise with contractors and SSEN teams, and champion safety and CDM compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering or equivalent experience; professional registration desirable.
• Proven experience in project engineering, design coordination or interface management.
• Experience managing interfaces across multi-disciplinary teams and contractors.
• Strong understanding of design-construction interdependencies and risk mitigation.
• Excellent communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience using ACC or similar digital collaboration platforms.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate engineering design interfaces across multi-contract delivery (HVDC, AC, Civils, Cables).
• Maintain Design Interface Registers and align inputs with contractors.
• Oversee design submittals via ACC for timely, traceable submissions.
• Act as linkage between SSEN teams and external partners, flagging risks and decisions.
• Promote safety culture and ensure CDM compliance and engineering standards.
• Help develop interface management best practices across the project.

Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office –Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow or Perth

Salary:£51,600 - £61,600 + car/cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we are looking for a Project Engineer – Interfaces to join our HVDC Engineering Team.

With several major HVDC projects underway, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure programmes and supporting the transition to Net Zero.

If you’ve developed your career in construction, consultancy, or client organisations and are ready to take on larger, more complex projects, this role will give you the platform to do so.

You will

• Manage engineering design interfaces across the multi-contract delivery strategy, including HVDC, AC, Civils and Cables.
• Own and maintain the Design Interface Registers, working closely with contractors to align inputs, resolve design issues early, and ensure project information remains accurate and up to date.
• Manage the design submittals process through Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), supporting the timely delivery of high-quality, traceable submissions.
• Act as a key link between SSEN teams and external partners, providing clear communication on interface risks, progress, key decisions and actions.
• Champion a positive safety culture and support compliance with CDM regulations and SSEN's engineering standards throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the development of interface management best practice across the project, helping colleagues identify, manage and mitigate design and quality risks effectively.

You have

• A degree, or equivalent experience, in a relevant engineering discipline (preferably electrical, mechanical or civil engineering). Chartered status, or working towards it, is desirable.
• Proven experience delivering project engineering, design coordination, or interface management activities across complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
• Proven ability to manage interfaces between teams, contractors, and disciplines, with a track record of identifying interface risks early and implementing effective mitigation measures.
• Experience supporting or leading elements of multi-disciplinary design coordination, with a good understanding of how design, construction, and programme interdependencies are managed.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience using digital collaboration platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), or similar systems, to manage design submissions, interface registers and structured workflows.
