Project Engineer – Manchester – Contract until June 2027
Contract: Until June 2027. Pay: £ per day outside IR35 (apply online only).
Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager and wider management team in monitoring project progress, ensuring that all design, construction, testing and financial targets are achieved.
- Maintain technical standards across all engineering work to ensure safe, reliable and compliant project delivery.
- Assist in forecasting engineering resources and identifying key skills required for project success.
- Provide input into the planning and progress reporting of engineering activities, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
- Act as the engineering representative for allocated projects and coordinate technical activities with subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to change management, reviewing and assessing the engineering impact of project variations.
- Support the development and maintenance of key project documentation including Health & Safety files, asset registers and documentation trackers.
- Manage integration between disciplines and deliverables as required within assigned work packages.
- Attend and contribute to regular project and progress meetings.
- Participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and actively promote a culture of learning, innovation and improvement.
- Demonstrate engineering excellence through innovative problem‑solving and the adoption of modern working methods.
Requirements
- Proven experience in an engineering delivery role, ideally within the rail or infrastructure sector.
- Knowledge or experience of safe working practices within railway environments.
- Awareness of Network Rail standards and design approval processes (desirable).
- IRSE Assistant Designer / Test License (required).
- Working towards IRSE License 7.8.110F to be attained within 3 years.
- Valid Authority to Work (ATW) and SWL/COSS competence.
- Appreciation of Design, Construction, Testing and Possession Planning.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills, with the ability to integrate across multiple engineering disciplines.
