Project Engineer

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer to join our well-established client based in Tipton . This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and organised professional to oversee and coordinate production activities across Manufacturing, Procurement, and Operational Quality within a highly technical engineering environment.

Monday to Friday – 08:00am to 05:00pm (39 hours per week)

Salary

£35,000 – £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Day-to-Day Duties

As a Project Engineer, you will act as the key interface between the Project Team and Production Operations, ensuring all project production activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual requirements.

Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to)
  • Coordinating and overseeing all Manufacturing, Procurement, and Operational Quality activities for assigned projects.
  • Ensuring all project inputs (drawings, specifications, BoMs, design data) are accurately transferred to production functions.
  • Monitoring production progress and resolving blockers to maintain schedule and budget adherence.
  • Supporting production planning meetings, updating stakeholders on progress, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Managing project cost and time forecasts, identifying variances, and implementing recovery plans.

  • Facilitating clear communication between Engineering, Project Quality, Project Management, and Customer teams.
  • Overseeing in-house installation activities during production stages.
  • Making informed make‑vs‑buy decisions in agreement with the Project Manager and reallocating budgets as required.
  • Ensuring all documentation (MITPs, Route Cards, inspection records) is complete, accurate, and approved.
  • Coordinating customer visits, inspections, and witness points both onsite and at supplier premises.
  • Ensuring Project Quality receives all required inputs to complete the Lifetime Quality Record (LTQR) package.
  • Monitoring and assisting with the resolution of Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety and company policies at all times.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Project Engineering or Production Coordination role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, tolerances, and work scopes.
  • Proven experience managing cross‑functional teams across Manufacturing, Procurement, and Quality.
  • Ability to develop and maintain project plans (e.g., Gantt charts) and monitor progress against time and budget.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Analysis (EVA) and financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to liaise at all levels.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; Power BI experience is advantageous.
  • Understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and process capability data.
Desirable Experience and Qualifications
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent process improvement qualification.
  • Experience in risk analysis, change control, and project reporting.
  • Familiarity with Quality Systems and LTQR processes.
