Job description

The opportunity

Join Schneider Electric’s One Solution Centre and take ownership of assigned electrical engineering packages from tender handover through to technical close out. You will turn customer and regulatory requirements into safe, compliant and buildable LV and MV solutions, then see them progress through design, manufacture, testing, site integration and handover.

Working on critical infrastructure projects across Australia, New Zealand and the wider Pacific, you will solve day to day design challenges, maintain traceable engineering evidence and coordinate customer, supplier and factory interfaces. Operating independently with general guidance, you will work within clear delegated authority, seek independent review where required and escape safety critical, unresolved or high consequence matters through the Project Manager and Technical Leader pathway.

What you will own
  • Design the solution. Develop coordinated SLDs, schematics, wiring information, equipment schedules, cable and termination data, data sheets, bills of material and calculation notes.
  • Apply engineering judgement. Complete or coordinate load assessments, cable sizing, voltage drop, derating, short circuit withstand, earthing inputs, protection interfaces and auxiliary supply requirements.
  • Control requirements and interfaces. Translate specifications, approved deviations, standards and utility requirements into traceable design outputs, technical queries and interface actions.
  • Protect configuration integrity. Reconcile calculations, drawings, equipment data, schedules, revisions and bills of material before issue or release to manufacture.
  • Coordinate suppliers and factories. Prepare technical requisitions, review submissions, resolve comments and close package interfaces.
  • Manage risk and boundaries. Identify assumptions, deviations and potential changes early, then escalates impacts on safety, compliance, scope, cost, schedule or quality.
  • Verify and hand over. Support ITPs, FAT, SAT, commissioning, defect close out, as built records, operation and maintenance inputs and technical handover.
  • Improve how we work. Capture lessons learned and contribute practical improvements and reusable engineering content.
Technology and projects

Work across new build, brownfield and modernisation projects involving systems up to 33 kV for data centres, utilities, transport, water, resources, healthcare, renewables, battery energy storage, industrial facilities and Defence.

  • LV and MV switchgear, switchboards, ring main units and motor control interfaces.
  • Kiosk and packaged substations, modular switchrooms and E Houses.
  • Transformers, busway, cable systems and termination interfaces.
  • Protection, control, metering, SCADA, communications and AC or DC auxiliary systems.

You do not need experience across every product family. Strong engineering fundamentals, coordinated design delivery and sound judgement matter more than an exact product match. We value curiosity and the ability to learn adjacent technologies.

What you will bring
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised for professional engineering practice in Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering LV or MV electrical engineering packages in project execution, consulting, manufacturing, systems integration, panel building or electrical contracting.
  • The ability to interpret customer specifications, SLDs, schematics, equipment data and technical schedules, and identify gaps, deviations and interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards and utility requirements, including AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067 and relevant IEC 62271 requirements for the assigned scope.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing coordinated design documentation for customer approval, procurement or manufacture.
  • Clear technical communication, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deliverables with general guidance.
  • Australian working rights at the time of application.

Around three years of relevant experience may suit this level, but capability and project evidence matter more than elapsed time alone.

Experience we value

Experience in any combination of the following would be useful. These are valued rather than required across every area:

  • Switchgear, packaged substations, transformers, busway, protection or control systems.
  • Vendor reviews, release to manufacture, FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning or technical handover.
  • AutoCAD, EPLAN, power system analysis software, electrical calculation tools or product configuration software.
  • Critical infrastructure sectors, professional registration, CPEng or NER credentials.
Build your professional pathway

Work with experienced Engineering Managers, Technical Leaders, Package Leads and specialists, including leadership holding CPEng, RPEQ and NER credentials. This established supervision model provides a practical pathway to broaden your LV and MV capability, strengthen engineering assurance and progress toward applicable state registration, CPEng or NER credentials.

Why Schneider Electric

At Schneider Electric, impact starts with us. We electrify, automate and digitalise infrastructure to help customers become more efficient, resilient and sustainable. Our culture is shaped by inclusion, mastery, purpose, action, curiosity and teamwork.

  • Meaningful engineering. Support critical infrastructure and the energy transition.
  • Growth with substance. Gain exposure to design, procurement, manufacture, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Flexibility. Hybrid work with purposeful, infrequent travel to customer sites, suppliers and factories.
  • Rewards. A competitive base salary plus superannuation and locally applicable Schneider Electric benefits.
A low friction, inclusive application process

We respect your time. The initial application uses a few eligibility checks as part of the overall process. Shortlisted candidates may complete a structured interview and a short, sanitised engineering exercise focused on judgement, safety, standards, checking and communication.

Strong candidates do not always meet every listed preference. If your experience is complimentary rather than explicit and you can demonstrate sound engineering judgement, coordinated delivery and a willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply. Adjustments are available throughout the recruitment process via the accommodation contact provided with the application.

Security clearance

Some future Defence assignments may require an Australian Government Baseline security clearance. Australian citizenship and a checkable background are ordinarily required. This is not a requirement for every assignment, and Schneider Electric would initiate sponsorship where required.
