Job summary

Wallace Hind Selection LTD is recruiting a Project Engineer in Dudley, West Midlands, to lead multiple NPI projects across our manufacturing sites and drive improvements in KPIs.

You will oversee NPI tooling projects, APQP deliverables, PPAP/ISIR activities and supplier coordination, while ensuring delivery against budgets and timelines in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience delivering NPI projects within Industrial, automotive or the medical sectors or similar.
• Have an understanding of APQP methodologies.
• Possess knowledge of tooling suppliers and in-house manufacturing.
• Have, ideally, a recognised project management qualification or experience working to project management methodologies.
• Experience of European manufacturing is a bonus, as is specific knowledge of pressings or stampings.

Responsibilities

• Leading NPI projects (from concept to completion), developing project plans, project gateways and APQP deliverables.
• NPI tooling projects including new and customer-owned tooling and/or previous tooling suppliers. Running 4–5 NPI projects when up to speed.
• Drive PPAP and ISIR submission activities with the engineering team.
• Communicate project expectations with customers through their life cycle.
• Manage all suppliers, toolmakers and subcontractors domestically and in EMEA.
• Support our in-house manufacturing.

This is a brand new role for a Project Engineer due to an internal promotion! Ideally, you’re an experienced Mechanical Engineer who can run simultaneous NPI projects at our West Midlands manufacturing facility and support our Eastern European manufacturing site. We manufacture a range of precision components, pressings, tooling design and subassembly for the Automotive, Medical and Industrial markets.

SALARY

Up to £55,000, dependent on your relevant experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

Your first 6‑12 months will be challenging – pushing your resilience, your commerciality and your project management capability to the test.

There will be processes in place that you would expect, and some will be non‑existent. We need you to help us take ownership of this and drive it forwards.

Your role as our Project Engineer will be pivotal in putting in place better operational project KPI’s such as PPAP’s, Right First Time, OTIF and ensuring projects run to budget constraints.

We recognise the team is under‑resourced, and whilst this is the first step in addressing some of these challenges – it’s not the only answer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Leading NPI projects (from concept to competition), developing project plans, project gateways and APQP deliverables.
• NPI tooling projects including new and customer‑owned tooling and/or previous tooling suppliers. Running 4–5 NPI projects when up to speed. Projects vary from 6‑24 months and carry a monetary value of £200,000 – £2,000,000.
• Drive PPAP and ISIR submission activities with the engineering team.
• Communicate project expectations with customers through their life cycle.
• Manage all suppliers, toolmakers and subcontractors domestically and in EMEA.
• Support our in‑house manufacturing.

BACKGROUND

• Have a Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Be competent delivering NPI projects within Industrial, automotive or the medical sectors or similar.
• Have an understanding of APQP methodologies.
• Possess knowledge of tooling suppliers and in‑house manufacturing.
• Have, ideally, a recognised project management qualification or experience working to project management methodologies.
• Experience of European manufacturing is a bonus, as is specific knowledge of pressings or stampings.
