Job summary

Mansell Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Project Engineer for an established engineering business specialising in bespoke equipment for the food processing sector. The role involves managing projects from order through installation, commissioning and handover, requiring a strong technical background and hands-on leadership.

Based primarily in the office, the role includes regular customer site visits with UK travel and occasional overseas trips.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop project scope with customers and the sales team.

• Source and specify purchased components and equipment.
• Coordinate delivery, installation and commissioning, and FAT/PDI activities.
• Maintain RAMS documentation and support SAT.

Job description

An established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke equipment for the food processing sector is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join its existing Projects team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and proven experience managing engineering projects from initial order through to installation, commissioning and final handover.

The role is primarily office-based, with regular customer site visits. UK overnight stays and occasional overseas travel will be required. The successful candidate may also be responsible for overseeing equipment installation and managing subcontractors on customer sites.

The Role

• Developing and agreeing project scope with customers and the sales team.
• Managing and maintaining project schedules and Gantt charts.
• Producing project documentation, including scope of supply, timing plans, P&IDs, BOMs and preliminary layout drawings.
• Specifying and sourcing purchased components and equipment.
• Managing project changes and ensuring agreed requirements are delivered.
• Coordinating equipment delivery, installation and commissioning.
• Organising and supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT/PDI).
• Coordinating packing, shipping and export documentation where required.
• Producing installation plans and arranging installation resources.
• Preparing and managing RAMS documentation.
• Supporting Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
• Coordinating customer training and documentation handover.
• Maintaining commercial awareness throughout each project and ensuring invoicing milestones are achieved.
• Working closely with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and internal departments to ensure projects are delivered successfully.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a similar project engineering role within a process engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing engineering projects from order through to installation and handover.
• Food processing industry experience would be advantageous.
• Strong customer-facing and project management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A proactive, enthusiastic and practical "can-do" approach.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Experience using MS Project.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD LT.
• Knowledge of steam systems, pneumatics, hydraulics and pipework.
• A basic understanding of electrical control systems would be beneficial.
• A full UK driving licence.

Working Hours

• Monday–Thursday: 8:30am–5:00pm
• Friday: 8:30am–4:00pm
