A leader in rail infrastructure is seeking a skilled Project Engineer to support their team in the North West on a long-term contract basis. The role includes monitoring project progress, ensuring technical standards, and coordinating engineering activities. Candidates must have experience in signalling project engineering and hold relevant licenses. This position offers the chance to contribute to significant rail projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in signalling project engineering.
• Appreciation of design, construction, testing, and possession planning.
• Possession of IRSE Assistant Designer/Test Licence.
• Working towards IRE Licence 7.8.110F.
• Possession of PTS/Sentinel.
• COSS preferred.
• UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager in monitoring progress and ensuring targets are met.
• Maintain technical standards in signalling project work.
• Monitor planning and progress of works against timeline and budget.
• Act as the engineering representative on projects when needed.
• Evaluate quality and technical accuracy of tenders and make recommendations.
• Coordinate the activities of sub-contractors.
• Ensure safe working practices on the railway.

Job description

Our client, a leader in rail infrastructure, is currently seeking a Project Engineer to join their team based in the North West on a long-term contract basis. This position is outside IR35 and offers the opportunity to assist in the delivery of engineering packages on rail projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Project Manager and management team to monitor progress and ensure that development, design, construction, testing, and financial targets are met, implementing remedial actions where necessary.
• Ensure technical standards are maintained in all aspects of signalling project work for safe and successful project implementation and future reliability.
• Participate in and monitor the planning and progress of works in relation to timeline and budget, implementing remedial actions when required.
• Act as the Project Manager's engineering representative on projects when needed.
• Assist in forecasting the overall engineering resources and key skills necessary for allocated projects to ensure timely provision.
• Evaluate the quality and technical accuracy of tenders, making recommendations for the best commercial awards.
• Maintain continuous communication with contractors and customers to ensure uniformity of purpose and common targets.
• Coordinate the engineering activities of sub-contractors.
• Review and assess the engineering aspects of project changes.
• Perform duties as directed by senior management and complete mandatory training courses defined by the business.
• Demonstrate engineering excellence through innovative thinking and adoption of new processes and methods of working.
• Ensure safe working practices on the railway and awareness of Network Rail standards and design approvals process.
• Assist with the planning of engineering works and compilation of H&S File requirements and documentation trackers for projects.
• Provide attendance and input at project meetings as required.
• Manage integration of small packages of works within allocated projects.

Job Requirements

• Experience in signalling project engineering.

• IRSE Assistant Designer/Test Licence.
• Working towards IRE Licence 7.8.110F.
• Possession of PTS/Sentinel.
• COSS preferred.
