Job summary

Balaena is seeking a Project Engineer, Fabrication to drive fabrication projects from planning through to delivery. You will work with a project manager to develop detailed timelines, allocate resources and manage budgets on national-significance fabrication initiatives.

The role requires hands-on technical guidance, reviewing drawings and specs, coordinating materials, tools and equipment, and monitoring progress and project financials while ensuring documentation and wash-up meetings are

Qualifications

  • HNC/ degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in an engineering/structural engineering/shipbuilding environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office and MS Project; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed project plans with timelines, resource allocation and budget management for fabrication projects.
  • Provide technical guidance by reviewing drawings and specifications to resolve project challenges.
  • Coordinate materials, tools and equipment with the fabrication team to meet project requirements.
  • Monitor progress and report on financial achievement of the project.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to keep projects on plan.
  • Finalize and document all project paperwork including wash-up meetings.

So what will you do?
  • With your Project Manager you’ll develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation and budget management for fabrication projects
  • You’ll be providing technical guidance and solutions to project challenges through reviewing and refining drawings and specifications
  • With the fabrication team you’ll coordinate materials, tools and equipment to meet with project requirements
  • Supporting the Project Manager you’ll monitor, maintain and report progress and financial achievement of the project
  • You’ll identify potential bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to keep your projects to plan
  • With each project you’ll be finalising and documenting all project paperwork including arranging project wash up meetings

  • Competency with MS Office and planning tools (MS Project)
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Experience in an engineering / structural engineering / ship building environment
  • Qualification at HNC/ Degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
  • Commercial experience and knowledge of project management principles
