Job summary

IONATE is seeking a Project Engineer for hands-on engineering, project management, and site-based troubleshooting across the product lifecycle. The role involves travel within the UK and internationally, with 20-40% travel and a blend of office and site work in London.

You will own technical workstreams, coordinate across teams, and drive projects from concept to rollout while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Power Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Experience with transformers, high power/grid-connected inverters, or grid-interfaced hardware products.
• Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally (20-40%) for installation and commissioning.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects and using project-management tools.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of technical workstreams and project deliverables, coordinating activities across engineering, manufacturing and suppliers.
• Lead or support site commissioning activities, coordinating stakeholders to ensure safe energisation and testing.
• Drive issues to resolution, balancing technical, schedule and commercial considerations.

Full-time / London / Hybrid - 3 days in office

IONATE is a deep technology scale-up building the technology backbone for smart grids. Our team is looking for a Project Engineer responsible for hands-on engineering, project management, and site-based troubleshooting across the entire product lifecycle- fromconcept and prototyping to pilot deployments and commercial rollouts.

We'relooking for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced start-up environment where priorities can evolve rapidly,and individuals are expected to take ownership beyond their immediate responsibilities.

This position will involve travel within the UK and internationally, often at short notice, (typically 20-40%, but potentially higher during installation and commissioning periods) to customer sites and project locations for varying durations.You will needa holistic approachto engineering, with strong technical judgement, practical problem-solvingskillsand well-grounded engineering experience.Importantly,you will contribute to live ongoing projects and test activities and work with the team to continue developing our HIT technology.

What you will do:

ProjectOwnership andExecution

• Take ownership of technical workstreams and project deliverables, coordinating activities across engineering,manufacturingandsuppliers.

• Lead or support site commissioning activities, coordinating multiple stakeholders to ensure safe and successful energisation and testing.

• Drive issues through to resolution, balancing technical, schedule and commercial considerations.

• Ensure that projects are delivered in scope,on timeworking in tandem with the project manager.

• Be involvedincustomer, supplier,and partner-facing conversations at each stage of the projectlifecycle toensuretechnical alignment.

• Monitor project status, report technical and schedule progress, andanticipateissues to inform risk management reviews and decisions.

• Participate in supplier management,logistics, procurement, and quality assurance for critical components.

• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site, customer and company health and safety procedures.

Technical Support and Engineering

• Support the development,integrationand validation of IONATE's technology through laboratory testing, fieldtrialsand commercial deployments.

• Work closely with engineering teams to translate product designs into robust,installableand maintainable solutions for deployment in customer networks.

• Coordinate technical activities across hardware, software,controlsand power electronics teams to ensure efficient project execution and successful delivery.

• Produce andmaintaintechnical documentation, engineering drawings, installation packs, commissioningproceduresand test reports.

• Support requirements definition, system integration, interfacemanagementand verification activities throughout the project lifecycle.

• Troubleshoot technical issues across hardware, software, controls and communications systems, both remotely and on-site.

• Contribute to product and process improvements by capturing lessons learned from testing,commissioningand operational deployments.

Site-Based Engineering and Travel

• Willingnessto travel extensively within the UK and internationally(typically 20-40%,but potentially higher during installation and commissioning periods).

• Conduct site surveys and work with customers tointegrate our solutioninto their operations, adapting quickly to project scope changes.

• Perform functional and acceptance testing, commissioning, installations, and post-delivery troubleshooting across all projects.

• Collect field data and lessons learned to inform design improvements, commissioningproceduresand future product development.

• Bachelor's orMaster'sdegree in Electronics, Electrical, Power Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering.

• Experience with transformers, high power/grid connected inverters, substation design or any grid-interfaced,high-powerPowerElectronics hardware product ishighly valued.

• Experience travelling for site-based project work for site surveys, SAT, FAT,installationand commissioning.

• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects and using project management documentation and ERP tools such as Confluence, Jira, MS Project, AutoCAD,SAPor equivalent.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision and willing to travel extensively asrequired.

• Familiarity with commissioning, safety standards,and on-site troubleshootingespecially in hardware-heavy environments.

• Experience working with utilities, network operators, industrial customers,EPCsor renewable energy developers would beadvantageous.
