Project Engineer

Location - Desborough

Salary up to £45k plus benefits

Are you a hands-on Project Engineer who thrives on turning complex concepts into fully functioning engineered solutions?

Our client, an established engineering manufacturer is looking for a proactive and detail-driven Project Engineer to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership of the full engineering lifecycle—from early layout designs to commissioning equipment on customer sites.

Working on bespoke processing systems, including conveyors, steel structures, and integrated third-party machinery, you'll play a key role in delivering high-performance plant layouts that meet demanding operational requirements.

The Opportunity

This is a varied and influential role where you will:

  • Produce 2D and 3D general arrangement layouts using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Integrate in-house equipment with specialist third-party machinery (e.g., shredders, magnets, optical sorters) to design tailored solutions.
  • Lead engineering activities from concept through manufacture, testing, installation, and commissioning.
  • Create accurate BOMs, maintain technical documentation, and ensure designs meet legislative and internal standards.
  • Optimise material flow, space utilisation, and process efficiency across complex plant layouts.
  • Work closely with Projects, Manufacturing, Sales, suppliers and customers to ensure technical expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Provide on-site engineering support, measurements, technical reviews, and commissioning assistance.
  • Drive continuous improvement, review competitor offerings, and help refine design standards and pricing accuracy.
What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from you if you bring:

  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer in machinery, fabrication, conveyor systems, or related industries.
  • Strong SolidWorks and AutoCAD skills (3D + 2D).
  • Experience with sheet metal and fabricated product design (essential).
  • Knowledge of special purpose machinery and associated manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage costs, BOMs, project timelines, and multi-stakeholder communication.
  • Understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
  • A practical approach, comfortable attending customer sites when required.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (HNC or equivalent).
Why This Role Stands Out
  • Work on technically challenging, bespoke solutions with real impact.
  • Join a business that values innovation, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Gain exposure to a wide range of engineering disciplines—from design to commissioning.
  • Be part of a supportive, down-to-earth team where your ideas genuinely matter.

If you're motivated by engineering excellence and want to play a key role in delivering complex machinery projects, we'd be delighted to tell you more
