Job summary

A leading multinational engineering firm is seeking a Project Design Engineer to join on a contract basis until March 2026, with strong potential for extension. The role offers competitive compensation of up to £537.50 per day (Inside IR35). Responsibilities include developing technical specifications and managing substation layouts for 400kV to 11kV projects. Candidates must possess an HNC/HND in a relevant engineering field and have knowledge of industry standards. The position is hybrid, with primarily home-based work and occasional office meetings in Birmingham.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.
  • Provide substation layouts and associated detail diagrams in accordance with established UK standards.
  • Check and approve project documentation.
  • Produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts.
  • Input into design and hazard review meetings.

CK Group are recruiting for a Project Design Engineer to join a multinational, multi-industry company, on a contract basis initially till the end of March 2026 with a high likelihood of further extension.

Salary: Up to £537.50 per day (Inside IR35)

The main purpose of this contract will be to provide technical expertise in the design and installation of Substation Layouts for 400kV to 11kV substation projects.

Duties and responsibilities
  • To develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment
  • To provide substation layouts and associated detail diagrams in accordance with established UK standards
  • To check and approve project documentation
  • To produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts to complete.
  • To input into design and hazard review meetings
Your Background
  • HNC/HND in related engineering field
  • Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution practices (400kV to 11 kV)
  • Knowledge of various relevant industry standards including National Grid / SSE / SPEN / DNO requirements

Our client is a multinational company in a range of industries including renewable energy.

The role is hybrid, primarily home-based with occasional meetings at the Birmingham office.
