Job summary

An established engineering company in Ipswich is seeking a Project Design Engineer to produce 3D CAD models and manage projects from sales order to commissioning. Job description

We are working with a well-established engineering business seeking a Project Design Engineer based in Ipswich. This is an excellent, diverse role for someone who can work independently and as part of a team, providing mechanical design and engineering support across the business while contributing to product development and technical advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce 3D CAD models (Autodesk Inventor) and 2D drawings (AutoCAD)
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable and meet functional requirements
  • Manage projects from sales order to commissioning, including BOMs, layout drawings, and specifications
  • Undertake in-house testing, support factory testing, and assist with on-site commissioning
  • Provide technical support for internal teams, service engineers, and client queries
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, spares drawings, and O&M manuals, ensuring compliance
  • Assist with inspections and warranty investigations as required
Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience in a mechanical design engineering role
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design, or similar
  • Strong mathematics and physics skills
  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
  • Organised, methodical, and able to work independently
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
