Job summary

px Group (pxEngineering) in Stockton-on-Tees seeks a Project Delivery Director to lead pxEngineering's delivery team, delivering projects safely, on time, to scope and at target margin.

You will manage 5-6 discipline heads and ~35 engineers across a portfolio from £20k to £1.5m, shaping delivery strategy to reduce lead times, cut costs and improve quality while driving KPIs and P&L performance.

Qualifications

• Engineering or business degree required.
• Senior leadership experience in engineering/projects.
• Experience in EPC/large construction and FEED studies.
• Strong P&L and budget management.

Responsibilities

• Lead pxE's delivery teams from handover to sign‑off on plan, budget and scope.
• Report weekly and monthly performance to the MD and Leadership Team.
• Manage delivery metrics including on‑time delivery, resource recoveries, load forecasting and schedule adherence.
• Control project budgets and manage risk alongside the Financial Controller.
• Build commercial awareness to grow margin through variations and prevent scope creep.
• Ensure delivery complies with policy and standards; drive continuous improvement.
• Support Sales and Bids; manage client relationships during delivery.
• Coordinate with Group Projects Director to align strategy and standardise processes.
• Own team structure, recruitment and development of heads of department.

pxEngineering, px's engineering and projects business in Stockton, delivers studies, FEEDs and general engineering consultancy for heavy‑industry and process clients.

THE ROLE

This is a new leadership role reporting to the Managing Director. As Project Delivery Director, you will lead pxEngineering's delivery team and take overall responsibility for delivering every awarded project safely, on time, to scope and at target margin.

You will lead 5-6 discipline heads (including Process, Piping and Electrical) and around 35 engineers, across a varied portfolio of projects ranging from c.£20k to £1.5m. You will shape the delivery strategy to cut lead times and costs while improving quality, turn business goals into clear KPIs, and build a culture of accountability, with a firm focus on the P&L.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and line manage pxE's delivery teams, taking all awarded projects from handover to sign‑off on plan, budget and scope
• Report weekly and monthly performance to the MD and Leadership Team, covering safety, cost, progress, scope, quality, risk and opportunity
• Manage delivery metrics including on‑time delivery, resource recoveries, load forecasting and schedule adherence
• Control project budgets and manage risk alongside the Financial Controller
• Build commercial awareness in delivery teams to grow margin through variations and prevent scope creep
• Ensure delivery complies with business policy and industry standards, and drive continuous improvement and best practice
• Support the Sales and Bids team, and manage client relationships throughout delivery
• Work with the Group Projects Director and fellow Directors to align strategy, standardise processes and plan resourcing
• Own team structure, recruitment and development, mentoring and challenging your heads of department to raise performance

ABOUT YOU

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an engineering or business discipline
• Senior leadership experience in an engineering or projects environment, for example as an Engineering Director, Operations Director or Senior Engineering Manager who has run projects
• Background in large construction, plant, EPC or the process industries
• Experience managing a diverse range of projects, including studies and FEEDs
• Knowledge of the AACE International estimate classification system (Class 5 to 1)
• Proven P&L and budget management, with a strong commercial focus on profitable growth
• A tenacious problem solver and a visible, motivating leader who develops and pushes people to perform
• An excellent communicator, confident presenting at board level, highly organised with strong attention to detail
• Able to travel to client sites when required
