Job summary

Butler Rose is supporting a confidential, high-growth organisation in the recruitment of a Project Accounting Manager for the Project Finance Function. Based in West London / Berkshire with 2-3 days on-site, the role covers improving project accounting, revenue recognition, reporting, controls and commercial finance processes across a complex project-led environment.

The role requires hands-on IFRS 15 expertise, experience with long-term contracts and advanced Excel/financial modelling.

Qualifications

• Experience with IFRS 15 in practice.
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition in complex contracts.
• Knowledge of WIP, EAC and project margin reporting.
• Background in complex, long-term or multi-disciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

• Review project accounting processes including percentage completion and revenue recognition triggers.
• Apply IFRS 15 and other accounting principles to a complex project-led environment.
• Reconcile project information to Finance and the general ledger.
• Improve estimates to complete, cost-to-complete reporting and project margin visibility.
• Work with large, inconsistent datasets to identify discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy.
• Build practical processes, controls and tools for consistent project reporting.
• Partner with commercial, project management and delivery teams to adopt improved processes.
• Challenge existing assumptions and simplify complex accounting for non-finance stakeholders.

Project Accounting Manager (Project Finance Function)

Location: West London / Berkshire (2-3 days per week on-site)

Duration: ASAP start, c. 6 months

Rate: £450-£600/day (Dependent on Experience)

We are supporting a confidential, high-growth organisation with the appointment of experienced Project Accounting / Commercial Finance specialists. This is a hands-on technical role focused on improving project accounting, revenue recognition, reporting, controls and commercial finance processes across a complex project-led environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with finance, commercial, project management and delivery teams to review existing practices, identify inconsistencies and help build practical, reliable processes that can be adopted across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing project accounting processes, including percentage completion, revenue recognition triggers and project margin reporting.
• Applying technical accounting principles, including IFRS 15 and FRS 102, to a complex project-led environment.
• Reconciling project information to Finance and the general ledger.
• Improving estimates to complete, cost-to-complete reporting and project margin visibility.
• Working with large, inconsistent datasets to identify discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy.
• Building practical processes, controls and tools that support consistent project reporting.
• Partnering with commercial, project management and delivery teams to support adoption of improved processes.
• Challenging existing assumptions and simplifying complex accounting matters for non-finance stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring:

• Strong hands-on experience of IFRS 15 and revenue recognition in practice.
• Experience working with complex, long-term or multi-disciplinary contracts.
• Project accounting experience, including percentage completion, WIP, EAC, ETC and project margin analysis.
• A background in complex project-led environments, long-term contracts, major capital projects or similar settings.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with the ability to work with large and inconsistent datasets.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and build credibility with commercial and operational teams.
• A practical, investigative and solution-focused approach.
• Confidence working in a changing environment where processes are still being developed or improved.

This role would suit a technically strong accountant who is comfortable working in a complex project-led environment, simplifying technical accounting issues and helping a business move towards more consistent, reliable and commercially useful reporting.
