This role focuses on developing staff, enhancing clinical practice and delivering evidence-based maternity care, while leading education training and development strategies for the maternity service.

You will lead new educational initiatives, support professional development and manage projects, enabling clinicians to work clinically and through training.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate educational activities for pre-/post-registration students and RTP midwives with AEIs.
  • Provide safe clinical placements; allocate PS/PA; deliver CPD for PS/PA including teaching and assessing.
  • Support attendance at SSSA courses; enable midwives to achieve practice assessor status; maintain PA database.
  • Together with the education lead, ensure students meet NMC requirements for clinical proficiencies.

Job summary

We are seeking an exceptionally motivated and forward-thinking midwife to join the Education Team at QCCH. This Practice Development Midwife position presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced and dedicated professional with a strong commitment to staff development, the enhancement of clinical practice, and the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based maternity care.


This role is central to fostering a positive learning culture across our maternity service. It involves leading and implementing education training and development strategies for the maternity service and will provide you with the opportunity to use your specialist skills to support clinical staff both working clinically and by more formal training.


It also involves being involved in new educational initiatives, professional & clinical development and managing projects.

Main duties of the job


  • To work with the midwifery education lead to co-ordinate and facilitate the educational activities of individual pre and post registration students and return to practice (RTP) midwives, by working in partnership with the Approved Education Institutions (AEI's) to promote evidenced based learning in the development of midwifery practice, encompassing local and national service drivers.

  • To provide and assure a safe and effective clinical placement for midwifery students, by ensuring that practice supervisors (PS's) and assessors (PA's) are appropriately allocated and supported to maximise learning opportunities Provide practice based continuing professional development for PS's and PA's including education provision in teaching and assessing in clinical practice

  • Work with the midwifery education lead to co-ordinate and support midwives' attendance at SSSA (standards for student supervision and assessment) courses and updates. Collaborate with link lecturers to provide opportunities for midwives to achieve practice assessor status and maintain a local database of PA's

  • With the midwifery education lead, work collaboratively to ensure that students achieve the NMC requirements for clinical proficiencies and practice assessments and manipulate student learning experiences where necessary to meet this need, troubleshooting when issues arise
