Job summary

Cooley LLP in London seeks an entrepreneurial Products Professional Support Lawyer (4+ PQE) to lead knowledge management, training and regulatory updates for our market‑leading Products practice.

You will monitor UK/EU developments, design training, support client engagement and develop templates and precedents, collaborating with partners across the firm. A strong legal background and ability to innovate in knowledge services are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Legal Know-How and Updates: monitor UK/EU developments for the Products group; prepare summaries and alerts.
  • Legal Education: lead training for the group; chair know-how meetings; coordinate topics and identify training needs.
  • Industry and client engagement: attend conferences; support business development and client materials.
  • Form and Precedent Drafting/Management: create/revise templates and organise know-how resources.
  • Assisting with Individual Fee Earner Requests: support fee earners with precedents and resources.
  • New Initiatives: contribute to knowledge management and innovation projects.
  • Other duties: perform related tasks as required.

Product Compliance and Litigation Practice

Cooley’s renowned Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 Tier 1 ranked Products Law practice comprises a team of 7 partners, together with a substantial number of associates and special counsel, based throughout the US and Europe. The practice focuses on providing global strategic regulatory counselling, liability risk management, and product liability defence to leading and innovative companies around the world.

This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial and commercially minded Products Professional Support Practitioner (PSP) to play a leading role in shaping the knowledge, training and innovation strategy of Cooley's market‑leading Products practice, based in London. The right candidate would be given the opportunity to become a key player in both the team’s delivery of market‑leading advice and in supporting the team’s position as a notable thought leader in this area.

Position responsibilities:
  • Legal Know‑How and Updates: Monitoring UK and EU legal and regulatory developments and practice updates relevant to the Products group including horizon tracking; involvement in thought leadership; preparing summaries and alerts (internal and for clients); ensuring new legal developments and practice improvements are captured and reflected in our various internal and external resources.
  • Legal Education: Leading the Products group’s substantive legal training function, including chairing know‑how meetings, delivering training on legal topics and coordinating training topics delivered by others; identifying (group or individual) training needs for fee earners.
  • Industry and client engagement: Attending industry conferences and supporting the Products group’s business development objectives by identifying emerging market trends and opportunities for client engagement. Supporting with the preparation of training and presentation materials for clients.
  • Form and Precedent Drafting/Management: Preparing template documents (or revising existing precedents). Curating and organising the Products group’s forms, precedents and other know‑how; working with the firm’s Knowledge Services function to identify ways in which knowledge capture and document management can be innovated / automated.
  • Assisting with Individual Fee Earner Requests: Building relationships with fee earners; helping field day‑to‑day requests for precedents, templates, training; and other resources.
  • New Initiatives: Being involved in knowledge management and practice innovation projects, together with the Firm’s wider Legal Education and Knowledge Services teams.
  • Other duties: Performing other related duties as assigned or required.
Skills and experience

Our ideal candidate will be an established Products Professional Support Lawyer at an international law firm, preferably at least 4+ PQE. However, we will also consider lawyers from international law firms or in‑house looking to transition into this type of role.

Success Factors
  • Legal Know‑How: Strong technical legal interest and ability (ideally in UK & EU Product law) and meaningful prior Products / regulatory experience.
  • AI and Legal Innovation: Demonstrable interest in legal technology, knowledge management and AI-enabled and other legal technology solutions, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance knowledge sharing and support the delivery of high‑quality legal services.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to prioritise work product, meet deadlines and manage a varied workload in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Drive: Ability to work autonomously and proactively take ownership of the London Products know‑how function; desire to innovate and support new initiatives.
  • People Skills: Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication; strong presentation skills.
