Oxford Instruments EMEAI is seeking a Production Technician Mechanical to join our Bristol-based production team. The role focuses on assembling complex systems, building sub-assemblies, and ensuring adherence to BOM and customer specifications. A strong mechanical background and high attention to detail are essential.

You will work on rotating shifts (early and afternoon) and contribute to continuous improvement, training colleagues, and maintaining safety and 5S standards in the build area.

Qualifications

  • Time served mechanical apprenticeship or City and Guilds part 3.
  • HND, HNC or BTech level 3 preferred.
  • Detail fitting skills to precision level, including milling and turning.
  • Reading mechanical drawings and fault-finding abilities essential.
  • Experience with vacuum, pneumatics and stainless steel pipe bending.

Responsabilités

  • Address build problems and use FRACAS for reporting issues.
  • Maintain high build quality and 5S standards in the work area.
  • Mentor less experienced technicians and support team training.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Production team and work on the assembly build of high-tech, cutting-edge products. You will develop new capabilities and work on some of our most complex system configurations. For this role you will need a strong engineering background and a high level of technical skills and knowledge.

You will be employed to work on a rotating shift pattern. Each working week consists of 4 shifts of 8 hours and one of 5 hours. Currently, the shifts are Early (starting at 06:00hrs) and Afternoon (starting at 14:00hrs).

Key Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To)
  • Build systems, sub-assemblies and piece parts for complex systems efficiently to the right quality levels and ISO standards, and to achieve build schedules
  • Ensure that the requirements of the BOM and the customer specification are achieved
  • Identify and resolve build problems
  • Report technical issues and record using the FRACAS process
  • Maintain your levels of technical competence by undertaking necessary training
  • Act as a point of reference to ensure that the technicians within the build area are fully aware of the build sequence
  • Train and guide less experienced technicians
  • Set an example of the highest level of build cleanliness, house keeping and Health and Safety issues within the build areas, and support and promote 5S initiatives
  • Contribute to the performance of the Production Team through continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work on a rotating shift pattern in line with the rota notified to you by your Team Leader.
About You

Essential unless otherwise stated:

  • Time served Mechanical apprenticeship or City and Guilds part 3, or
  • HND, HNC, or BTech level 3
  • Detail fitting skills to precision level, including:-
  • machining (typically milling and turning)
  • Vacuum and pneumatics
  • Pipe bending with stainless steel, ¼” to ½”
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings
  • Ability to fault find and implement corrective action
  • Ideally - relevant Electrical Qualifications
  • Ideally - combination of mechanical, electrical and electronic assembly skills
  • Ideally - experience of working in the semiconductor industry
  • PC skills
  • Highly committed team player
  • High standards of build quality; flexible, co-operative and willing; punctual and self-disciplined
  • Good communication skills

Working Hours

This role operates on a rotating shift pattern, consisting of:

  • Four 8-hour shifts per week
  • One 5-hour shift per week
Current Shift Patterns Include
  • Early Shift: From 06:00 to 14:00
  • Afternoon Shift: From 14:00 to 22:00
