Job summary

LW Theatres in London is seeking enthusiastic theatre technicians to join the Cambridge Theatre team for Matilda the Musical. You will prepare the show each day, conduct safety checks and support the Production Technical team to ensure safe, smooth performances.

Requirements include a proactive, team‑oriented approach, ability to work evenings and weekends, and comfort working at height and in low light. Training in First Aid at Work is welcome.

Description

The role…

We are searching for bright and motivated technicians to join our team at the Cambridge Theatre on Matilda the Musical

What you’ll be doing…

  • Working on all shows, previews and technical rehearsals of the Matilda The Musical.
  • As part of the Production Technical team, you will be preparing the show each day and helping to conduct safety checks.
  • Working closely with the visiting Company and its Stage Management to ensure the smooth and safe operation of each show.
  • Working as part of a team to maintain a professional work environment, where performers, technicians and audience members are safe.
  • Problem solving technical issues relating to the production.
  • Assisting the Head of Department, their Deputy & Senior Technician in the smooth operation of day to day activities within the theatre, as well as concerts and events.

Ordinary duties may include (but are not limited to):

  • Working at height as required.
  • Use of access equipment.
  • Wearing black clothing, including full face covering (if required)
  • Wearing protective clothing e.g. steel toe cap boots
  • Technical rehearsals
  • Dress rehearsals
  • Maintenance shifts as required.
  • Pre-setting ready for the show.
  • Following a ‘plot’. This could be a stage electrician, follow-spot, or board operator.
  • Operation of a follow spot, this may include manual and automated systems
  • Operation of all lighting equipment including but not limited to:
  • Smoke machines include low, haze, fog, dry ice and more.
  • C02 gas handling and replacement.
  • Lasers
  • Generic fixtures
  • Battery powered wireless devices
  • Installation and maintenance of costume electrics
  • Pyrotechnics
  • Paging cables for trucks and set pieces. These may be automated or manual.
  • Assist with rig checks for the show when required.
  • Conducting maintenance on the lighting, video and special effects of the show.
  • Ad hoc project work as directed by the Head of Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Advantageous

  • Experience of undertaking stage electrician and follow-spot plots on large scale productions
  • Experience of operating a professional lighting desk such as Grand MA or ETC

Salary & Benefits:

Salary:£ 17.47 per hour, plus show bonus and overtime.

Hours of Work: 24 hours per week over 6 days.
