Production Team Leader - Manufacturing Environment

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Contract Type: Permanent

Adecco is currently recruiting for a Production Team Leader on behalf of a leading manufacturing organisation. This is a hands‑on role that combines operational leadership with direct involvement in production activities, specifically within processing.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of products in line with customer requirements, managing a team of operators, and maintaining high standards of health and safety across the production area.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
  • Adhere to all site health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain Risk Assessment and COSHH documentation.
  • Ensure workstation and surrounding areas meet housekeeping standards.
  • Conduct scheduled area inspections.
  • Record all incidents, accidents, and observations appropriately.
Production Management
  • Oversee daily operations and optimise workflow across shifts.
  • Provide clear handovers between shifts.
  • Monitor bottleneck processes and ensure continuous workflow.
  • Track order progress and ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to resolve process and equipment issues.
  • Manage external batch processing and shipments.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
Consumables & Materials
  • Maintain stock levels of consumables and chemicals.
  • Conduct weekly stock checks and ensure safe storage and handling.
  • Monitor expiry dates and ensure proper usage rotation.
Team Leadership
  • Act as the first point of contact for operator queries and issues.
  • Resolve resource conflicts and elevate concerns as needed.
  • Ensure all team members are trained and maintain accurate training records.
  • Support performance reviews and manage informal HR matters.
  • Attend meetings and act as deputy for the Team Lead when required.
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of health & safety standards and chemical handling.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work collaboratively across teams.
  • Comfortable with both hands‑on production work and team supervision.
