Plant Oxford is the birthplace and heart of MINI production. Manufactured to individual customer specifications, hundreds of MINIs leave the plant’s assembly lines each day, off to meet new owners in more than 110 countries around the world. Three UK plants have a part to play in MINI production – Plant Hams Hall makes engines, Plant Swindon produces body pressings and sub‑assemblies for MINI, and all this comes together at Plant Oxford with body shell production, paint and final.

MINI Plant Oxford – Production System – Industrial Engineering & VPS Internship – 13‑Month Placement (July 2026)

What awaits you?
  • The intern will be responsible for supporting of Industrial Engineering & VPS tasks.
  • The intern will be supporting the measuring of time required to perform the work content throughout the Assembly building, this will be in collaboration with our full‑time industrial engineers and the PSP organisation. Idea generation to improve of the data capture and reporting of the monthly planning state (plan analysis, planzeit & out of balance), this will enable project planning, targeting and strategic planning within technology in corporation with central and local planning teams.
  • Contribution to VPS and cost saving activities both internally & externally to our department, and an active involvement to enable effective 5S, process confirmation and Gemba on the shop floor.
  • The intern will build the link between PSP/IE and cost budget achievement by supporting the production steering specialist with labour planning activities and transparency with new systems (HePP & AWP).
  • The aim is to find the opportunities to improve productivity and overall efficiency with reduced production waste/costs and identify and support future state improvements.
  • Task duration 12 months with presentation at end of placement on delivery, learning and future opportunities found throughout the time.
What should you bring along?
  • Skills in IT, Innovation & Data Analytics and Engineering and/or Business Management
  • Understanding of the measurement of time is by means of the BMW recognised tool / process.
  • Development of collaboration skills and how to utilise the expertise of the cross functional teams.
  • How to use time analysis and evaluations to guide and steer the technology towards targets.
  • How to create update the reporting & data visualisations & analytics of our metrics for business decisions.
  • Production experience during of placement.
