Position: Production Planner

Location: Cardiff

Job Type: Permanent

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Production Planning: Develop the weekly production plan to make best use of the available resources, analysing sales order data, inventory, resource availability, customer behaviour, and other factors to generate monthly and weekly production plans. Use statistical models, MRP software, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop accurate production plans.
  2. Inventory management: Optimize inventory levels by reflecting demand fluctuations in the MRP forecast while considering production lead times and supply constraints. Monitor inventory levels, analyse stock outs and excess inventory, and recommend actions such as safety stock adjustments, re-ordering, or obsolescence management to ensure product availability while minimizing costs.
  3. Performance analysis and reporting: Continuously monitor and analyse production data (e.g., open orders, late orders, inventory holding, production output, sales shipments) to measure current performance and support continuous improvement. Communicate findings to management, production teams, and stakeholders to aid decision-making.
  4. Sales and operations planning (S&OP): Collaborate with sales, marketing, finance, production, and supply chain teams to develop and execute an effective S&OP process. Align demand forecasts with production capabilities, inventory levels, and customer expectations. Participate in S&OP meetings to review forecasts, discuss constraints, and make decisions to meet customer demands.
  5. Collaboration and communication: Work with cross-functional teams to gather input, share information, and align production plans with the business strategy. Collaborate on new product launches, promotions, and market changes to adjust production plans and MRP forecast. Communicate effectively to coordinate activities and resolve conflicts.
  6. Demand variability management: Anticipate and manage demand variability considering seasonality, market dynamics, and regulatory changes. Assess impact on demand and production requirements, develop contingency plans, and mitigate risks with other functions to manage supply chain disruptions.
  7. Continuous improvement: Seek opportunities to improve planning processes, tools, and methodologies. Identify areas for optimization, automation, and efficiency gains. Participate in cross-functional improvement initiatives, implement best practices, and leverage technology to enhance forecasting accuracy and overall supply chain performance.
  8. Provide cover for other operations support functions to release and close materials work orders to maintain production flow during periods of absence.
  9. Any other duties as required by management.
