Job description
Production Operative – Temp to Perm Opportunity

Location: Warrington

Hours: Monday - Thursday: 08:00 - 17:00
Friday: 08:00 - 13:00

Role Purpose

As a Production Operative, you will operate and maintain automated fabric cutting equipment to produce accurate, right‑first‑time cut parts in PVC, canvas, and related technical textiles. This role involves safe material handling, machine setup and operation, inspection, and basic maintenance while working independently and as part of a small team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material Handling & Preparation: Receive, identify, and stage rolls/sheets (PVC, canvas, vinyl, acrylic‑coated fabrics, foams, webbing). Use roll lifters and pallet trucks safely.
  • Machine Setup & Operation: Set up automated cutting machines (e.g., CNC/Gerber/auto cutter), load markers/programs, perform test cuts, adjust vacuum, tooling/blades, and parameters to meet specifications.
  • Reading Work Instructions: Interpret cut plans, job cards, and drawings; verify materials, colourways, batch codes, and revision levels.
  • Quality Control: Check first off and in‑process parts against tolerances; record non‑conformances; protect surfaces; segregate conforming and rework parts.
  • Waste Minimisation: Optimise nest/lay to reduce scrap; maintain yield targets; report material issues.
  • Identification & Kitting: Label parts with ticketing; collate cut kits with travellers; hand over to sewing/assembly with accurate counts and paperwork.
  • Basic Maintenance & 5S: Perform daily cleaning, blade changes, bed checks, calibration, and safety checks; maintain an organised work area; escalates faults.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Follow risk assessments, SOPs, and permits; use PPE; comply with PUWER and isolation procedures; report near misses.
  • Data Capture: Record throughput, scrap, downtime, and reasons using production systems or shopfloor forms.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Work independently when required; liaise with Planning, QA, and Sewing teams; support training of new starters.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
  • Experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments following SOPs and quality standards.
  • Comfortable handling textile rolls and using lifting aids (training provided).
  • Able to read measurements, drawings, and work instructions with strong attention to detail.
  • Basic IT literacy for machine interfaces and production recording.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
Desirable
  • Experience operating automated cutting equipment (Gerber, CNC, laser, auto cutter) or industrial knife cutting.
  • Knowledge of PVC, canvas, technical textiles, and care of clear window materials.
  • Basic maintenance skills such as blade changes, calibration, and fault finding.
  • FLT/pallet truck license or experience with roll handling equipment.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English preferred.
  • Manual Handling and basic Health & Safety training (company provided).
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • On‑your‑feet role with regular lifting, pushing/pulling (with aids).
  • Work around moving machinery, vacuum beds, and cutting blades (all safety guards and interlocks in place).
  • Occasional overtime and shift flexibility as needed to meet demand.
Training & Progression
