Production Operative

Location: Devizes, Wiltshire

Salary: £30-35K (depending on experience)

Hours: 39 per week - Early & Late Shift Pattern Monday to Friday

The Opportunity

A leading manufacturer in the precision engineering sector is seeking a skilled and motivated Production Operative to join its production team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with hands‑on production experience who are looking to develop their career within a modern, clean, and high‑performing production environment.

Role Overview

The Production Operative will be based across various departments, working on small‑batch production of high‑precision components. The role combines manual craftsmanship with CNC machining and requires a methodical, quality‑focused approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reading and Interpreting Technical Drawings – Understand engineering drawings, and job specifications to assemble parts accurately.
  • Fitting and Assembling Components – Use hand tools (files, hacksaws, hammers) and precision instruments to fit mechanical parts to fine tolerances.
  • Marking Out Materials – Accurately mark materials for cutting and machining using measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and rulers.
  • Cutting, Filing, and Shaping Components – Manually shape components to required dimensions and finishes using tools like files, grinders, and drills.
  • Assembling Mechanical Parts – Assemble parts into finished mechanical products or sub‑assemblies using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Inspecting and Testing Assemblies – Use gauges, micrometers, and other tools to inspect parts and assemblies for accuracy and quality.
  • Grinding and Deburring – Remove sharp edges or burrs from machined parts to ensure safe and proper assembly.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience within manufacturing.
  • Understanding of engineering machines, tools, and safe work practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical working style.
  • Basic IT/computer skills.
