Job description

Production Supervisor

Reed Engineering is supporting the search for a dedicated Production Supervisor to lead the production team of an established and fast-growing manufacturing company. This role involves driving the success of the production department by providing outstanding leadership to a team of Multi-Skilled Operatives (MSOs). The focus will be on achieving key production targets, upholding strict quality and safety standards, and ensuring the efficient assembly of products, contributing to the overall operational excellence.

Day‑to‑day of the role

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of MSOs and Section Leaders to meet precise quality standards and technical specifications.
• Manage the production and assembly process to meet time‑critical production schedules.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by analysing performance data and implementing corrective actions.
• Conduct thorough quality inspections and testing as required before dispatch.
• Monitor and update the training matrix, ensuring timely booking and notification of training for direct reports.
• Maintain and improve 5S and safety standards in the work environment.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality, Warehouse, Inventory, and Logistics departments to resolve production issues and ensure a smooth workflow.
• Manage the safe operation and maintenance of instruments, tools, and machinery.
• Provide timely updates and reports on work progress and issues.
• Ensure compliance with the organisation’s safety standards at all times.
• Manage direct reports effectively, including conducting probationary reviews, performance reviews, and one-to-one meetings.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Production Supervisor/Manager in a manufacturing, assembly, or construction environment.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles such as 5S, Kaizen, and Poka‑Yoke.
• Experience with MRP/ERP systems is highly desirable.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Exceptional problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
