Job Title: Production Engineer

Reporting to: Factory Manager

Location: Ponteland

Salary: £40,000+ (plus performance-based bonus)

Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, with overtime as required)

The Role

We're looking for an experienced Production Engineer to play a key role in our busy manufacturing facility. You'll oversee the production of electrical control panels, ensuring they meet stringent quality standards, are built efficiently, and delivered on time.

You'll also be responsible for leading and motivating a team of approximately 15 skilled operatives and panel wirers, helping to drive continuous improvement across processes, quality, and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of panel builders, promoting a culture of quality, safety, and improvement
  • Oversee daily production activities, ensuring work meets deadlines and quality standards
  • Interpret and review electrical drawings, wiring schematics, and specifications
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with standards and project requirements
  • Coordinate workflow and resources to maximise productivity and achieve KPIs
  • Collaborate with design, procurement, and project teams to resolve technical issues
  • Maintain organisation, tooling, and equipment on the shop floor, ensuring safe working practices
  • Support training, performance monitoring, and development within your team
  • Assist with hands‑on panel building during peak demand or complex projects
  • Drive initiatives to improve quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency
  • Lead regular production meetings, reviews, and performance updates
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis to resolve issues and implement corrective actions
  • Hold regular one‑to‑ones with team members, fostering engagement and development

  • Proven experience in electrical panel assembly and team supervision
  • Strong understanding of control panel wiring, components, and industry standards
  • Ability to interpret technical electrical drawings and documentation

Qualifications
  • 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering
  • NVQ (#removed#) Level 3 in Electrical Engineering, Installation, or Maintenance
  • C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 processes and specifications
