Job summary

Progress Rail is seeking a Production Design Engineer in Sandiacre (NG10 5AN) to develop and improve manufacturing instructions and routes, ensuring accurate, efficient processes. You will interpret technical drawings, drive data analysis, and support continuous improvement across a multi‑functional team.

The role requires manufacturing design experience, an HNC in Mechanical or Production Engineering, and strong IT skills (Excel; VBA desirable). On‑site with competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience of design in a manufacturing environment.
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
  • Strong ability to interpret and work confidently with technical drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; VBA experience desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail when producing engineering documentation.
  • Strong data analysis skills; drive process improvements and issue resolution.
  • Good time‑management and prioritisation.
  • Collaborate across functions and build strong working relationships.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, routing principles, and change controls.
  • Familiarity with NCRs and engineering change processes.

PRODUCTION DESIGN ENGINEER – MANUFACTURING INSTRUCTIONS

THE ROLE

As a Production Design Engineer you will be required to:

  • Maintain and improve departmental systems, identifying opportunities for enhancement and driving continuous improvement.
  • Apply strong product and manufacturing knowledge to create accurate, efficient manufacturing instructions and production routes.

THE CANDIDATE
  • Previous experience of design in a manufacturing environment
  • HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
