Production Design Engineer

Location – Fareham

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to shape innovative marine products?

My client is seeking a Production Design Engineer to join their Technical Product team, taking designs from prototype through to efficient, scalable manufacturing. This pivotal role will see you optimise product designs for manufacturability, cost, repeatability, and robustness, while working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery against business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of product designs from production prototype to scalable manufacturing.
  • Optimise designs for manufacturability, considering materials, build sequence, accessibility, and repeatability.
  • Design production tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Support DFMEA and Root Cause Analysis to prevent or resolve production issues.
  • Generate and manage detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maintain MRP tools.
  • Collaborate with Production, Electrical Design, and Systems Engineering teams to ensure design integration.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and detailed design artefacts (drawings, 3D models, etc.).

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Degree, HND, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Product Design, or related discipline.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, and manufacturing methods.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with interest in workshop/manufacturing activities.
  • Experience managing BOMs and using MRP tools.
  • Strong teamworking and communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in maritime, automotive, or aerospace industries.
  • Knowledge of boatbuilding methods and marine systems.
  • Root Cause Analysis and problem-solving experience.
  • Experience with cell manufacturing and digital workshop management tools.
