Job summary

McLaren Racing is offering a placement year in our Production team in Woking, focusing on projects that support manufacture, planning and delivery of a Formula 1 car. You will plan and deliver varied projects in a fast-paced environment, gaining hands-on experience under guidance from senior engineers.

You'll work across machining, quality, production planning and data-led improvement, developing skills in project management, problem-solving and data analysis while learning how AI integration

Qualifications

• Pursuing a relevant engineering degree with a 2:1 predicted grade.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments.
• Experience with data and digital tools to assess performance.

Job Description

Working across our Production team, you will use your initiative to plan and deliver varied projects in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You will be expected to manage multiple workstreams, adapt to changing priorities and turn ideas and data into practical improvements, with guidance and support from experienced team members.

Your placement may include projects across:

• Machining and manufacturing operations
• Quality, reliability and process optimisation
• Production planning and programmes
• Operational performance and data-led improvement

We would expect the following from the successful candidate:

• Quickly integrate into Production teams and build effective working relationships across different operational areas.
• Take ownership of defined projects from scoping and planning through to delivery, review and handover.
• Manage multiple priorities and workstreams, maintaining momentum while responding to changing production demands.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Studying towards a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a minimum predicted grade of 2:1 (or equivalent).
• An understanding of manufacturing processes, production environments and the practical application of engineering principles.
• Strong project skills, with evidence of organising work, progressing actions and delivering outcomes through academic, extracurricular or work-based projects.
• Confidence using data and digital tools to understand performance, identify opportunities and communicate recommendations.
• An interest in AI integration and its practical application to manufacturing, planning, reporting, workflow automation or process improvement.
• Previous experience in manufacturing, engineering or motorsport is desirable but not required.

• Proactivity and an aptitude for picking up skills and methods quickly.
• The ability to work well under pressure and with time constraints (with support provided to ensure this works well).
• An intelligent, data-driven approach to solving new and challenging problems, with strong problem-solving skills.
• The ability to learn and develop skills on the job, as well as to apply existing skills to new types of problems.
• Good communication and presentation skills to work effectively as part of a close-knit team, with shared responsibilities, working under challenging conditions.
