Product Safety Engineer — Systems Safety & Certification

Job summary

iO Associates is recruiting a Product Safety Engineer to act as the focal point for Product & System Safety Assurance, supporting bids and live programmes from early design through to certification.

This permanent role is on-site/hybrid (min 2/3 days on-site). Candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC) and meet UK nationality requirements; DV desirable for future projects.

Qualifications

• Proven background delivering Product Safety Engineering/System Safety on complex, regulated systems.
• Experience leading safety analysis, risk evaluation, and safety case development.
• Strong experience owning hazard logs and running hazard identification/analysis.
• Knowledge of standards/regulatory expectations (Def Stan 00-056, IEC 61508, defence safety regulation).
• Working knowledge of CE/UKCA compliance expectations.
• Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Establish and deliver Safety Management Systems and Safety Plans.
• Own delivery of Product / System Safety activities across multiple programmes.
• Lead hazard identification activity and maintain hazard logs.
• Conduct safety analysis and risk evaluation (identification, estimation, reduction / ALARP).
• Produce and contribute to safety cases and certification/assurance artefacts.
• Create clear technical reports and present safety progress to stakeholders.
• Provide safety input to bids/proposals (scope, work packages, effort and schedule).
