Why do we want you?

Mercia Group, part of Wilmington plc, is one of the UK's leading providers of training, compliance and marketing support to accountancy firms. We're looking for a Product Manager to help shape the future of our compliance and advisory portfolio, ensuring our products continue to deliver exceptional value for customers while supporting the growth of the business.

Drawing on your background as a qualified accountant and your understanding of the challenges faced by accountancy firms, you'll combine customer insight, technical expertise and commercial thinking to define product strategy, develop roadmaps and identify opportunities for innovation. Working closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the business, you'll help create and evolve solutions that meet customer needs, leverage modern SaaS delivery models and strengthen Mercia's position in the market.

If you're excited about building products that solve real customer challenges and want to influence the future direction of a market-leading compliance offering, we'd love to hear from you!

Job purpose, tasks and responsibilities

Our Product Manager is responsible for shaping the strategy, performance and evolution of Mercia's methodology, compliance and advisory product portfolio. Working closely with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams, you'll ensure our products remain commercially successful, aligned to customer needs and responsive to regulatory change, while identifying opportunities to enhance customer value through innovation, AI and emerging technologies.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Define and deliver the product strategy and roadmap for Mercia's methodology and advisory portfolio.
  • Own products throughout their lifecycle, from concept and launch to ongoing improvement and optimisation.
  • Use customer insight, market trends and regulatory developments to shape product direction.
  • Explore opportunities to leverage AI, automation and emerging technologies to enhance customer value.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts and technology partners to bring ideas to life.
  • Monitor product performance and identify opportunities to drive growth, engagement and retention.
  • Support pricing, proposition development and go-to-market activity.

What's the Best Thing About This Role?

You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of a well-established portfolio that's trusted by accountancy firms across the UK, while helping shape its future direction. Working with our subject matter experts, you'll influence everything from product strategy and pricing through to software partnerships and innovation, ensuring our methodology and advisory products continue to evolve with customer needs.

You’ll also have the chance to play a key role in exploring how AI and emerging technologies can enhance our products and customer experience.

What’s the Most Challenging Thing About This Role?

You’ll be balancing technical accuracy, regulatory change, customer needs and commercial performance across a portfolio of products and services. You’ll need to quickly build a deep understanding of our methodology and offering and identify where there are opportunities for improvement.

In this role, you’ll help define what great product management looks like at Mercia. You'll be expected to bring structure, strategic thinking and a continuous improvement mindset, helping us strengthen product management, evaluate new opportunities and maximise the value of a portfolio that is critical to our customers and our growth.

Essential and desirable capabilities

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, ICAS or equivalent) and audit experience.
  • Experience managing or developing methodology, compliance, advisory, technical support or information-based products.
  • Knowledge of SaaS products and subscription-based business models.
  • The ability to translate customer needs and regulatory requirements into practical product solutions.
  • Experience creating product roadmaps, prioritising initiatives and managing competing demands.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple teams.
  • A customer-focused mindset, supported by sound commercial awareness and decision-making.

To be successful in this role, it would be great if you have:

  • Experience implementing AI-enabled solutions or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience using customer insight, market research or product analytics to inform product decisions.
