Job summary

Cummins is seeking an enthusiastic Product Engineering Placement Student to join our Power Systems Business segment in Daventry, United Kingdom. This placement provides hands-on experience with a global engineering leader and exposure to how a major organisation operates.

The role is on-site with a 3-day-per-week requirement, commencing Summer 2027. You will work on engine projects, support problem solving, and gain exposure to value engineering and new engine tasks.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree with a 12-month placement year in mechanical, automotive, aeronautical engineering or related STEM fields.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team with support as required.
• Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint and Excel) required.

Responsibilities

• Support active projects to improve engine quality.
• Lead and support product problem solving and change requests for current engine products.
• Liaise with the service team during failure investigations.
• Maintain lead value engineering projects to improve profitability.
• Support with new engine projects and general engineering tasks.
• Opportunities to design and analyze new engine parts.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Product Engineering Placement Student to join our team specialising in Engineering for our Power Systems Business segment in Daventry, United Kingdom.

During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organisation operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

The requirements are to be onsite for 3 days per week so you will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf

This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence in Summer 2027.

External Qualifications and Competencies

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

• Support with active projects to improve the quality of the engines.
• Lead and support product problem solving and product change requests for current product engine support.
• Liaise and work with the service team in failure investigations.
• Maintain the lead value engineering projects to improve the profitability of the company.
• Support with new engine projects in general engineering tasks when required.

Additional Responsibilities Unique to this Position

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

• In the process of completing a degree with a 12-month placement year in mechanical, automotive, aeronautical engineering or relevant STEM degrees.
• Ability to communicate both written and orally on work tasks.
• Ability to work alone or as part of a team (with support as required)
• Confidence in office work environment and working on MS office (PowerPoint and Excel)
