Job summary

Vermillion Analytics is seeking a Senior Product Engineer in the UK to join a small, high-trust team. You will own features end‑to‑end—from initial problem framing to shipped solutions—working directly with product, research and occasionally clients.

Expect ownership of architecture and judgment for the wider team. You’ll also scope work for contractors when extra capacity is needed, while embracing AI-powered coding and rapid iteration in a hybrid/remote setup.

Senior Product Engineer (hybrid/remote, you must be UK Based)

We're looking for a Senior Product Engineer to join a small, high-trust engineering team building a next‑generation platform while supporting an existing live product for enterprise clients.

The role

You’ll own features end‑to‑end — from ambiguous problem to shipped solution — working directly with product, research and occasionally clients rather than building to fully specified tickets. Expect real ownership: shaping architecture, resolving ambiguous requirements, and being a source of judgement for the wider team. You’ll also scope work clearly enough to hand to contractors when extra capacity is needed.

• Backend: PHP/Laravel, microservices architecture, BFF (Backend for Frontend) pattern
• Frontend: React, SPAs
• Tooling: Jira, Confluence, GitHub
• Plus microservice‑oriented architecture and document databases more broadly, with heavy use of AI‑assisted coding, QA and CI/CD tooling (including Claude Code and Anthropic models) as standard practice

What we’re looking for

• Genuinely strong engineering ability across the stack — AI tools should accelerate a good engineer, not substitute for one
• Fluency with AI coding tools and an appetite to use them to ship faster, well‑considered work
• Sound judgement on abstractions and system design, able to spot when AI‑generated code is (or isn’t) actually right
• A track record of owning larger, less‑defined problems at whatever level that’s occurred
• Comfortable with genuine ambiguity, curious about the product and users, not just the code
• Strong communicator, self‑managing, proactive — brings ideas rather than waiting for direction

Practicalities

• UK‑based, must be employable via PAYE
• Remote‑friendly (current team is remote), though first day must be in person and some office attendance is encouraged, especially during probation
