A day in the role

A typical day will include joining your colleagues on daily stand‑ups and other agile ceremonies, presenting solution reviews, backlog refinement exercises etc. The majority of your day will be spent using a DevOps approach to developing solutions defined in user stories (business requirements) according to standard SDLC processes. You may also be involved in wider Domain initiatives or helping with Bank‑wide strategic objectives, such as Outreach, Diversity and Inclusion through the Bank established Staff Networks. When in the office, you may want to lunch with colleagues or meet for a coffee with colleagues in your team or even wider across the Bank. You may join, or even take part in, colleague All Hands, Town Halls and other collaborative events. There are support and release responsibilities in a product engineer role where you will be involved with managing the release into production and be involved in incident management and resolution. The role is varied, exciting and critical in developing and supporting a critical Product that underpins Banking Regulation. The work you will be doing contributes to the stability of the UK economy.

  • Play a key role in the entire life‑cycle of the project from inception to support.
  • Building and operating a continuous integration (CI) capability when required employing version control of source code and related artefacts
  • Ensuring security and privacy requirements are an essential part of systems integration and build
  • Unit‑testing, validation and sign‑off of integration to satisfy requirements, architectures and design
  • Continually test your programs, correct errors to maximise quality

How this role fits into the wider Bank

The role is part of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) Deputy Governorship CIO Division within Technology. This division is central to the development, support, and maintenance of the Bank's Regulatory data systems. This division focuses on analysing, designing, and delivering business solutions that leverage data to provide insightful, real‑time, and predictive views of business operations.

Qualifications – Must be able to
  • Must be able to understand and code independently in SQL and translate requirements into code.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities including debugging scripts and writing stored procedures.
  • Demonstrates good development practises and experience with version control tools such as GIT.
  • Understanding of data modelling (relational, object oriented, NoSQL, time‑based)
  • Strong understanding of ETL concepts and operational databases, defining physical or virtual data warehouse structures required to support business intelligence or data analytics services.
  • Experience of Agile ceremonies and activities. Including planning, retrospectives and estimation.

  • Experience championing and utilising the processes that are used to deploy and test through environments, adhering to the governance required.

Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working with any of the following (C#, .Net, Python, SSIS, SSAS).
  • Knowledge of Visualisation Tools (Tableau/Power BI).
  • Experience working with Cloud‑Based data solutions including modern data warehouse, ETL and storage.
  • Expertise in performance tuning queries.
  • Experience in Test Driven Development.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a salary as follows: Leeds circa £36,400 - £40,950.

There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/65th) or decrease (to 1/105th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
