Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in product design, proficiency in Solidworks, and a strong background in design validation. The role involves collaboration with research teams and production support, ensuring product designs meet quality and manufacturability standards.
The Product Design Engineer will work closely with the research and development team to feed into new design concepts and technology. Once at a feasibility stage they will be responsible for developing these concepts to production‑ready designs. They will conduct early‑stage testing to shape and validate designs. Support the Test team through product verification, analyzing data and interpreting results to aid design improvements. Support the transfer of projects from Development to production, working with the production team from capturing early‑stage DFA requirements, DFA reviews to support production trials.
Concept development; creating product concepts and layouts around developing technology; applying brand language to new concepts to fit product families; product/mechanical design primarily using Solidworks (3D Solid & Surface modeling). Creating 2D technical drawings, including tolerancing. Ensuring that designs are suitable for mass production. Utilizing 3D printing for concept development, usability trials, and functional testing. Testing and validating prototype and pre‑production parts. Analyzing data and interpreting results to aid design improvements. Generating project documentation, including drawings, test reports, DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFA (Design for Assembly), etc. Providing production and part approval support as required. Principle responsibilities: designing and developing products; feeding into research projects from early stages, developing design concepts and developing and validating them to a production‑ready stage; collaborating with other mechanical and electronics team members, Test Team, and process engineers in the production team. Continuous improvement activities including engineering change notices (allowing modifications to existing designs based on feedback and evolving requirements) and DFMEA analyses to proactively address risks and ensure robust design solutions.
