Product Design Engineer

Location: Southampton

Term: Permanent

Salary: GBP 38,000 : GBP 45,000, dependent on experience

My client is a specialist product designer and manufacturer. They are looking for a Product Design Engineer, with strong experience designing consumer products, to join their team in Southampton on a permanent basis.

Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Product Design, Industrial Design or similar
  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar Design Engineering position
  • Hands‑on experience with R&D, testing and prototype development
  • Experience working on full lifecycle design projects
  • A sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering processes and materials
  • Previous work experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment would be beneficial
  • Proficient using 2D and 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite etc.
  • Experienced working with a range of materials including metal and plastics
  • Technically minded with a head for problem solving
  • Proven ability to drive Engineering development
  • Able to work to specific requirements and deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Organised with excellent communication and teamwork skills
Responsibilities
  • Develop ideas from concept through to production
  • Use CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
  • Work on full lifecycle product design projects
  • Speak to End Users and do market research
  • Liaise with manufacturing providers
  • Involve in final assembly of products
  • Create the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
  • Update 3D models and drawings
  • Input parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
  • Check drawings for sign off
  • Work in a small multi‑disciplinary team on varied projects
