Background: Energy Markets (EM) is the commercial heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. EM plays a critical role as the asset optimiser, route to market and risk management function for all SSE's Business Units (Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). EM enables SSE to focus its expertise and capabilities in energy markets (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence and, with these enhanced capabilities, support value creation and decision-making across the SSE Group.

The role

As a Product Analyst, you will play a crucial role in driving successful delivery of products within SSE. Your analytical skills and understanding of the energy industry will be essential in capturing and documenting requirements and identifying opportunities for process improvement including optimizing outcomes. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, utilizing agile methodologies to ensure delivery. You will work closely with Product Owners and Delivery Leads providing support to :

You will
  • Conduct requirement gathering sessions and translate business needs to actionable plans by a variety of methods including via sprint planning sessions
  • Develop and maintain documentation in an agile environment, including user stories and product backlogs.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance delivery efficiency.
  • Coordinate with Product Owners / Delivery Leads as well as cross-functional teams to prioritize tasks, resolve dependencies, and mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with Product owners and Delivery Leads and act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders, to ensure alignment of the requirements and delivery objectives as well as continuously building up knowledge of different areas within Energy Markets to ensure a good understanding of key business processes / teams, as well as the underlying architecture and technical landscapes of the systems that support them.
You have
  • Technical product analysis experience in gathering requirements using a variety of methodologies, including agile, as well as proficiency in Business Process Mapping.
  • Experience of Agile software development practices including Scrum and Kanban frameworks and running sprint planning, daily stand ups, retrospectives and show and tells utilising common tools like Azure DevOps / Jira / Confluence.
  • Good coordination abilities, with a track record of collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders in both business and technical domains.
  • Good knowledge of the energy sector, including key market trends and business drivers. Specific knowledge of trading practices within the energy industry would be advantageous.
