Overview

Cardiff Council is seeking an experienced Assistant Solicitor (Procurement) Locum to join our Governance and Legal Services - Procurement team on a temporary contract, with a strong possibility of extension.

As Assistant Solicitor (Procurement), you will provide high-quality legal advice and support on procurement, contracts, and general local government law matters. You will play a key role in advising on the Procurement Act, Public Contracts Regulations, and governance and decision-making within local government — ensuring our services continue to operate within a robust legal framework.

  • Location: Remote (hybrid working supported; occasional attendance at council sites may be required)
  • Contract: Temporary (initially 3 months, potential to extend)
  • Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Directorate: Governance and Legal Services - Procurement
  • Pay Rate: £55.76 per hour (via Umbrella)
Essential Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor (holding a current practising certificate) or Barrister with equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of procurement law, including the Procurement Act and Public Contracts Regulations.
  • Demonstrable experience in drafting and amending contracts, including standard forms.
  • Knowledge and experience of local government law, including governance and decision-making processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and practical legal advice.
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, online legal research tools, and legal case management systems).
  • Ability to use DocuSign (or equivalent) for completion of contracts.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
