Job summary

Portfolio Procurement has been engaged by our leading Essex based client to recruit for a Procurement Manager (Electronics). You will lead subcontractor performance and supplier capability across complex, cutting-edge programmes, driving PCBA system integration from concept through to stable production.

You will shape procurement strategies, own supplier delivery plans, drive NPI readiness, and manage commercial aspects including contract negotiations, risk, and supplier development.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in procurement, subcontract management, or supply chain in technical/engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) and managing supplier engagement from design through to production.
  • Strong understanding of supplier readiness, qualification processes, and compliance requirements, including regulatory, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Proven ability to manage supplier performance and deliver recovery in challenging delivery environments.
  • Experience working within complex, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environments.
  • Strong commercial and contractual acumen, with experience managing risk and negotiating agreements.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical capability with strong data handling skills, including Excel, SQL and ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Professional procurement qualifications, such as MCIPS are desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline would be advantageous.
  • Eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance is a requirement
  • Some travel within UK

Responsibilities

  • Lead supplier selection ensuring capability, capacity, and maturity alignment to programme phase (NPI through production ramp) and delivery risk profile.
  • Own end-to-end delivery performance of assigned subcontractors, ensuring alignment to programme milestones, cost targets, and quality requirements.
  • Establish and maintain robust supplier delivery plans, tracking performance against agreed schedules and proactively managing risks and constraints.
  • Lead recovery planning and execution for underperforming suppliers, driving timely resolution of delivery or quality issues.
  • Engage suppliers early in design and NPI phases to ensure readiness to support programme requirements.
  • Conduct supplier readiness and capability assessments, including industrialisation, compliance, and documentation maturity.
  • Ensure alignment between engineering change processes and supplier execution, minimising disruption to programme delivery.
  • Support structured onboarding and qualification of suppliers, including compliance with regulatory and environmental standards.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned to programme and business objectives.
  • Lead contractual negotiations and establish framework agreements that appropriately manage delivery risk, performance expectations, and commercial outcomes.
  • Manage change control, variations, and commercial risks throughout the subcontract lifecycle.
  • Drive supplier performance management through data-driven reviews, KPIs, and structured improvement plans.
  • Identify and implement supplier development initiatives to improve capability, capacity, quality, and delivery reliability.
  • Develop resilient supply strategies including dual sourcing and alternative supplier identification.
  • Act as the primary link between procurement, suppliers, engineering, quality, and manufacturing to ensure integrated execution.
  • Support programme teams in defining procurement requirements and ensuring supplier deliverables meet technical and programme objectives.
  • Provide clear communication and escalation of supplier-related risks and opportunities.

The role:

You will take a leading role in driving subcontractor performance and supplier capability across complex, cutting-edge programmes. Main Responsibilities:
Subcontract & Supplier Delivery
