Job summary

Balaena Tyne is seeking a hands-on Procurement and Technical Buying professional to support marine engineering and defence fabrication projects. You will source materials, interpret drawings, and manage urgent purchasing with a focus on cost, quality and delivery.

Qualifications

Procurement experience in heavy engineering or similar sectors.
Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
Experience sourcing technical and engineered components.
Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
Experience in fast-paced, project-led environments.
Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and procurement processes.

Responsibilities

Bring structure, pace and sound judgement to procurement and technical buying across ship repair, marine engineering and defence projects.
Source materials, components and services from approved suppliers per project requirements.
Interpret drawings, specifications and BOMs to ensure accurate purchasing.
Manage urgent purchasing to minimise delays and vessel downtime.
Negotiate terms and monitor supplier performance on cost, quality and delivery.
Coordinate with engineering, production and commercial teams to align supply chain activities.
