Job summary

A reputable civil engineering firm is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their procurement team. Located in Thornaby-on-Tees, the successful candidate will support project teams across the UK, managing material and service procurement while ensuring compliance with company policies. If you have strong communication skills and experience in construction procurement, along with good IT skills and the willingness to travel, this opportunity offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction procurement or buying, preferably in groundworks or civil engineering.
  • Ability to manage multiple orders and enquiries simultaneously.
  • Full UK driving licence is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase materials and subcontractor services for construction projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Lead negotiations on rates, discounts, and terms for cost savings.
  • Coordinate material scheduling and delivery with site teams.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and environmental standards.
  • Review material specifications with engineers and propose alternatives.
