Job summary

Ipsen in Wrexham is seeking a Process Scientist I to join the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) team, supporting commercial manufacturing operations at the site. You will work at the interface of science and manufacturing, providing technical expertise for drug substance and drug product processes.

You will contribute to process optimisation, data analysis, and investigations, helping ensure products are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in scientific/pharmaceutical/engineering field or significant relevant experience.
  • Understanding of sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

Responsibilities

  • Support process optimisation and continuous improvement across drug substance and drug product manufacturing.
  • Contribute to manufacturing investigations and data-driven root cause analysis.
  • Assist CPV activities for commercial production lines and document results.
  • Design and execute protocols to generate data supporting investigations.
  • Analyse process data and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with site functions to achieve MS&T objectives and improve performance.

We are looking for a Process Scientist I to join our Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) team, supporting commercial manufacturing operations at our Wrexham site .This is an exciting opportunity to work at the interface between science and manufacturing, providing technical expertise to support sterile drug products and drug substance processes. You'll play a key role in process optimisation, continuous improvement, data analysis, and manufacturing investigations, helping to ensure our products are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.Working closely with Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Operational Technology teams, you will contribute to the lifecycle management of commercial products while developing your scientific and technical expertise within a global biopharmaceutical company.What you'll be doingAs a Process Scientist within MS&T, you will:Support process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives across drug substance and drug product manufacturing.Contribute to manufacturing investigations, using scientific and data-driven approaches to identify root causes and recommend solutions.Support Continuous Process Verification (CPV) activities for commercial production lines.Design, author, and execute protocols to generate data that supports manufacturing investigations and process improvements.Analyse and interpret process data, preparing clear technical reports and recommendations.Work collaboratively across site functions to achieve MS&T objectives and improve manufacturing performance.Support process monitoring, data trending, and statistical analysis activities.Identify opportunities to enhance processes, laboratory practices, and operational efficiency.Prepare, review, and update technical documentation, including protocols, reports, SOPs, and training materials.Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with GMP, data integrity, quality, and safety requirements.About youWe're looking for a scientifically minded individual who enjoys solving complex problems, working collaboratively, and using data to drive improvements.Essential RequirementsDegree in a Scientific, Pharmaceutical, Engineering, or related discipline or significant equivalent experience gained in a relevant pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, or GMP-regulated environment.Understanding of sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.Preferred ExperienceIndustrial experience within pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, manufacturing, or a related regulated industry.Experience of process monitoring, technical investigations, or manufacturing support activities.Knowledge of data analysis and visualisation tools.Familiarity with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab, or similar.Understanding of risk assessment methodologies, including FMEA and product impact assessments.Experience working within GMP-regulated environments.What will make you successful?You'll thrive in this role if you:Enjoy tackling complex technical challenges.Take ownership and deliver with a strong focus on execution.Are naturally curious and committed to continuous learning.Build strong collaborative relationships across teams.Communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.Why join Ipsen?At Ipsen, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the manufacture of medicines that improve patients' lives worldwide.
