Job summary

Egis is expanding rapidly its UK Water team, delivering major water and wastewater projects across the UK. This Process Engineer role focuses on designing robust treatment solutions within a multidisciplinary environment, with opportunities to travel to sites and collaborate with operators, suppliers and other engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master in chemical or process engineering; 4+ years in water/wastewater design.
  • Experience delivering process design deliverables: P&IDs, mass balances, basis of design.
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes and CDM/safety-by-design.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to process design packages for UK water/wastewater projects.
  • Prepare calculations, mass balances, P&IDs, and design reports under guidance.
  • Support option development, capacity checks, and asset assessment.
  • Attend site visits and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support safety studies such as HAZOP, CDM reviews.
  • Utilize data analysis and modelling outputs to inform designs.

About the Role

The UK water sector is entering a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis accelerates the growth of its Water Business in the UK, we are building a high-performing Process Engineering team to help shape this next chapter.

We are inviting applicants who want to play a meaningful role in delivering major water and wastewater programmes in the UK municipal and industrial sectors. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to technically robust, sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects.

This is a rare opportunity to join at a key stage of our UK growth journey, helping to establish, shape and expand a process engineering capability built on Egis' global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to process design packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design for UK water/wastewater treatment projects.
  • Prepare process calculations, mass balances, basis of design reports, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, sketches, datasheets, schedules and technical notes under senior guidance.
  • Support option development, treatment process selection, hydraulic/process capacity checks and assessment of existing treatment assets.
  • Attend site visits, asset surveys and data collection activities, including discussions with operators, suppliers and technology providers.
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination with Mechanical, EICA, civil/structural, architectural and construction teams.
  • Contribute to design and operational safety studies such as HAZOP, SWIFT, DSEAR, HAC/HAP and CDM/safety-by-design reviews.
  • Use spreadsheets, process tools, data analysis and modelling/simulation outputs to support evidence-based design decisions.
  • Support contractor/supplier reviews, technical queries, commissioning strategies, performance testing and handover where required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • BEng/MEng or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • Typically 4+ years' relevant process design experience.
  • Background must be from water, wastewater and/or biosolids/sludge treatment design.
  • Experience preparing process design deliverables such as calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, basis of design reports and technical specifications.
  • Understanding of water/wastewater treatment processes, process safety, CDM/safety-by-design and quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to integrated, buildable and operable treatment solutions.
  • Good digital capability, including Excel and relevant process calculation, data analysis or modelling tools.
  • Ability to travel to operational works, construction sites and supplier facilities as required.
Desirable Skills / Knowledge
  • Experience in wastewater treatment, clean water treatment, sludge/bioresources, water reuse/recycling, nutrient removal, chemical dosing, energy recovery or low-carbon treatment.
  • Exposure to AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B, framework or alliance delivery environments.
  • Awareness or practical use of process modelling/simulation packages such as BioWin, SUMO or Dynamizu.
  • Progress towards IEng or CEng with a relevant professional institution, such as IChemE.
