Role Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for a Process Engineer to join our Engineering Department at our Swinton site, reporting to the Head of Engineering.

This role offers a varied mix of office-based and plant-based work, focusing on the Zirconium Chemicals business. You'll play a key role in supporting daily operations, asset management, maintenance, and capital project execution, working closely with both operational teams and fellow engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specify, develop, and analyse processes and equipment to support and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
  • Support both large and small capital expenditure projects from concept through to commissioning and optimisation.
  • Participate in design reviews, management of change processes, hazard studies, and root cause analysis to ensure safety and identify areas for improvement.
  • Update and review engineering documents, including piping and instrumentation diagrams, process flow diagrams, and equipment data sheets.
  • Perform chemical engineering calculations as required, such as mass and energy balances and fluid flow analysis.
  • Develop technical solutions and communicate proposals through clear, well-presented reports.
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to the operations and maintenance teams.
  • Contribute process engineering expertise to environmental initiatives across the site.
  • Work collaboratively with the technical and sales teams to support new product development and the rapid scale-up of new products.
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree-level qualification in Chemical Engineering.
  • At least 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths, English, and Science.
  • Experience as a Process Engineer within the chemical industry or similar.
  • Proven experience in the optimisation and improvement of chemical processes.
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong knowledge of standard chemical engineering calculations ie. Heat transfer and equipment sizing.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in technical report writing and documentation.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of safety and quality.
  • Ability to apply engineering knowledge to process and equipment issues as well as execute solutions
