ALTEN Group is seeking a Process Engineer to support the design and delivery of critical systems on a major UK nuclear project. The role suits candidates with a chemical engineering background or experience in process design of mechanical plant within regulated industries such as Nuclear, Energy, or Oil & Gas.

You will develop process solutions, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation for Balance of Plant and utility systems, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety and quality

Formación

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
• Experience delivering process engineering projects in highly regulated industries.
• Knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, equipment sizing, and system specifications.
• Understanding of HAZOP/ALARP safety methodologies and risk assessment.

Responsabilidades

• Develop and review process engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, calculations, datasheets, and specifications.
• Support the design and integration of utility, water treatment, and mechanical process systems.
• Specify and assess process equipment such as pumps, tanks, filters, heat exchangers, and valves.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Manage interfaces with mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, and control & instrumentation teams.
• Support procurement activities, vendor reviews, and commissioning preparation.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

We are seeking a Process Engineer to support the design and delivery of critical systems on a major UK nuclear project. This position is ideal for candidates with either a Chemical Engineering background or demonstrable experience in the process design of mechanical plant and equipment within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Energy, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Water Treatment, or Pharmaceutical sectors.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of process solutions, equipment specifications, and engineering documentation for Balance of Plant and utility systems, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review process engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, calculations, datasheets, and technical specifications.
• Support the design and integration of utility, water treatment, chemical dosing, thermal management, and mechanical process systems.
• Specify and assess process equipment including pumps, tanks, filters, heat exchangers, valves, and associated package systems.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments, and multidisciplinary engineering meetings.
• Manage technical interfaces with mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, and control & instrumentation teams.
• Support procurement activities, vendor reviews, and commissioning preparation.
• Ensure engineering solutions comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills

• Experience delivering process engineering projects within highly regulated industries.
• Knowledge of process design principles and engineering documentation.
• Experience with PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, equipment sizing, and system specifications.
• Experience of either:
  • Chemical process systems and process plant design;
  • Mechanical process equipment and utility systems design.
• Understanding of engineering risk assessment and safety methodologies (e.g. HAZOP, ALARP).
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, orequivalentmilitary experience.

Desirable Skills

• Nuclear sector experience.
• Experience with water treatment, chemical dosing, utility distribution, steam, compressed air, or cooling water systems.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional accreditation.
• Knowledge of UK nuclear quality and regulatory requirements.
