Process Engineer

Buxton, Derbyshire
Permanent | 37.5 hours per week
Competitive Salary + Bonus + Benefits

We are recruiting for an experienced Process Engineer to join a major heavy industrial manufacturing operation in Buxton.

This is a site-based role focused on improving plant performance, process efficiency, energy consumption and operational reliability across a complex continuous-process environment.

The successful person will act as a key technical resource for process-related issues, analysing plant performance, identifying areas for improvement and working with multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams to implement practical solutions.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and analysing key process parameters to optimise plant performance
  • Conducting process studies, audits and investigations
  • Identifying process inefficiencies and recommending corrective actions
  • Supporting improvements to plant output, quality, reliability and operating cost
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce energy and power consumption
  • Supporting optimisation of fuel use and alternative fuels/raw materials
  • Troubleshooting process deviations using data and statistical analysis
  • Developing and implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Supporting Plant Improvement Plans and wider continuous improvement projects
  • Providing process engineering input into capital expenditure projects
  • Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering and central technical teams
  • Developing procedures, systems and tools to improve process control
  • Maintaining strong Health, Safety and Environmental standards
  • Acting as a technical point of reference for process-related issues across the site
What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in continuous-process or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.

Previous cement experience would be highly advantageous, although candidates from adjacent industries will be considered, including:

  • Lime and minerals
  • Aggregates and materials processing
  • Chemicals
  • Glass
  • Ceramics
  • Steel and metals
  • Energy from waste
  • Paper and pulp
  • Industrial manufacturing
  • Other thermal or continuous-process operations

Ideally, you will have:

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Proven experience working in a process engineering role
  • Strong understanding of process optimisation and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of process control and statistical analysis techniques
  • Experience analysing plant data and identifying performance improvements
  • Understanding of energy efficiency and process cost reduction
  • Experience working within strong Health, Safety and Environmental systems
  • Ability to work with engineering, maintenance and operational teams
  • Experience contributing to or leading process improvement projects
  • Good technical understanding of thermodynamics, chemistry and physics

IChemE membership, or a willingness to work towards Chartered Engineer status, would also be beneficial.

The Opportunity

This is a strong opportunity for a Process Engineer who enjoys getting close to the operation rather than working purely from a desk.

You will have the opportunity to influence plant performance, investigate technical problems, support capital projects and implement improvements capable of delivering measurable operational and commercial impact.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with direct cement experience as well as strong Process Engineers from adjacent heavy industrial sectors.
