Overview

An exciting opportunity to join the Hampshire & IOW Multiagency Personality Service (HMAPS) as a Probation Service Officer. HMAPS is jointly commissioned by NHS England and His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service. The role supports the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway and Intensive Interventions and Risk Management (IIRMS), providing psychological case management, intervention, and training to offenders with significant personality difficulties.

Responsibilities
  • Provide offender management and risk assessment, including risk management plans and escalation procedures.
  • Work directly with offenders on community sentences and support them through pre‑release, release and post‑release periods.
  • Conduct prison, home or other location visits in line with service procedures.
  • Prepare and complete court reports and prosecution of breaches.
  • Assist with referrals to services, housing, benefits and other external agencies.
  • Lead and co‑deliver accredited programmes aligned to grade.
  • Conduct mandatory alcohol and drug tests and follow medication procedures.
  • Carry out safeguarding duties for children in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
  • Communicate with courts, partner agencies and the wider justice system to support risk‑management.
  • Provide cover and support within teams as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience working with offenders or individuals with complex social and personal difficulties.
  • Knowledge of risk management, risk assessment and offender case management principles.
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system and probation service workings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear reports.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including out‑of‑hours, in court, prison or approved premises settings.
  • Commitment to equality and inclusion and understanding of their relevance to the role.
Working Arrangements

Base at a Probation Office near your home with travel to other Probation Offices in Hampshire and to Ravenswood House in Fareham. The role requires flexible travel, including visits to prisons, approved premises and external appointments. Hybrid working arrangements may be available where business need allows.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary: £26,475. Pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF). Benefits include annual leave, pension, training, networking opportunities and standard civil service benefits. The role may require out‑of‑hours work.
